I am getting ready to install the EG Classic Grill and have read the forum posts. I am still not clear about the removal of the bottom clips on the OE grill. The instructions say you need a special tool to seperate the bumper from the grill at the bottom. It also says you need to pull very forcefully to pop the grill out. Others seem to have had lots of problems with the last part. Any advice/suggestions ?

If you start at one end it seems to go pretty well. You do have to be forceful though. Before I started I put masking tape between the bottom of the grille and the bumper so I wouldn't scrap or scratch it--also around the sides. If I remember correctly it took about 45mins to an hour. Makes a BIG difference in the look of the car. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the replys. Did you use any kind of tool to get behind the grill or did you just grab the bottom and pull straight out? The directions showed elongating the slots for the grill. Do you remember if you did all the slots are just the two on the end?

Thanks again,

grill

Uintih, 1st use several layers of tape try the blue painters tape as it comes of more easily. I removed all top trim as the directions said. I removed the original cadillac emblems using a very thin but stiff putty knife getting behind the tape carefully even starting the slice with a single edge razor as the original emblems are tapeed on as well. But that was after I 1st removed the grill. I used a very long 1/2" wide screwdriver and pushed it under each of the tabs starting from one side the 1st one is difficult as you are afraid you might break something or scratch something just look inside and you can see from the top where the blade is going you need to push the tabs up then pull the grill out. I actually did all of one side then I needed to go to the other side and again work toward the center. Once you release just one it will give you the confidence to do the others. Once out remove all the trims as I stated above. I layed the new tape over the emblem and cut in out on a board with a single edge razor. Then repeated that until the crest was completly covered with the new tape. Then I used the blade with emblem in hand to trim off any excess. When i had everything ready on the bench I removed the paper from the tape carefully as it does not come off easily. The directions are a bit sketchy. Bee EXTREMELY careful when applying the stainless trim to the hood as once you touch it anywhere its on for good. I put the blue tape on the hood above the line on the trim, dry fit the trim for center applied marks on the tape and trim so I had something to line it all up and it fit perfict! I cleaned off the excess glue on the stainless with some laquer thinner on a rag extrememly carefully as not to ever touch the paint. The entire job from start to finish took 1-1/4 hrs. Now that I know how probably 1/2 hr. Good luck and if your stuck write me here. Jim
