I just noticed the 06 models come with two free map upgrades. For you 06 owners out there, how does that work? Do they give you certificates or just instruct you to request from your dealer?

I'm going to get out my manual and check that out. It seems to me that when we do upgrades, some of you 04, 05 guys might want our old 06 DVD's. When I do upgrade I will be glad to share (give) my older DVD to anyone that wants it, but I don't see that happening for at least a year.

DVD upgrade

What year is your XLR? I will put your posting name in my auto legal file, but don't expect this anytime soon. You are #1 on the list.

I just noticed it on the window stickers of the 06's. Great idea about passing them down. Add me to the list of potential recipients

Since I have an early 04, I'll take anyone's hand-me downs. Alternatively, I'd be happy just to borrow a DVD for a day...

Hi Jim, According to MR_XLR, We get a letter in the mail on our anniversary dates and then we simple order it. I wonder if someone out there would be interested in copying my 06 one when my anniversary date comes. Then everyone on the forum with 04's and 05's could have a copy

We will have a couple available whenever they issue the updates. I think that they do the updates every couple of years, not necessarily each year.

Would it be illegal if we where giving copies away?

I believe it would be illegal to be making anything but a personal backup copy of your DVD. I would guess Troy would delete these messages if it went much further.:angel

If we assume that the same protections apply to the Nav System DVD that apply to other types of software then the answer is yes. If I understand the ownership agreement correctly you have purchased a license of the software and not actually the software. To then distribute (even for free) would be in violation of the agreement.

Now the funny part of this is that many of the nav discs say that if you disagree with the license agreement, to simply return the disc and the navigation system for a full refund. It would be interesting to return the nav system (including the car) after a few years and ask for a full refund.
