I have been bad, very very bad.:reddevil

I have not been able to drive my XLR now for over a month now. :cry :cry

The battery is now dead and will not open the car doors or trunk.
I have used the key to open the trunk and then pulled to cord to get into the car and from there to the hood latch and at last I have gotten to the battery.
I have removed the battery and I am now recharging the battery. I will also be installing a float charger.

My question is will I have to reprogram everything in the car? :eek

Anything I should reprogram first if I have to reprogram things?:smash

I did the same thing with my XLR the first couple weeks I had it. Once the battery was charged everything seemed to work except I couldnt get the top to go down. Took it to the dealer. He said I had 42 codes that had to be cleared.

Good luck and keep it charged.

I have a less-than-week-old 06 XLR. I opened and closed the trunk once, and opened the convertible top... all while in accessory mode (running electric but engine not running). Now the battery is dead. All the electronics (light, GPS, headlights) are working, but not starting. wtf is going on here?? I've tried jumpstarting the battery, with no luck.

if your XLR spent any time on the dealer floor, then they opened and shut the top 100+ times and killed the battery 10 times over. It's probably had numerous recharges and won't hold a proper charge anymore. Get a new battery...it's under warranty.

another thing...make sure your FOB ....and the spare....is stored far enough away from the car when not in use, so all the computers shut down properly.

I'll get the new battery soon, thanks for the advice. I also need to reset the power windows, the passenger window auto-up feature takes the window up then down to about 50%. I already read about the issue elsewhere so I will try and find it with a search.

The battery jump-started fine, but it was a huge hassle! I guess my connections with the initial jump-start were not ok.

On a side note, do you know if warranty towing includes a flat bed tow?

To add to harrysxlr excellent advice, if you have a cell phone charging cord plugged in, it often blocks the sensing of your FOB. I had both FOBS replaced but it changed nothing. I switched to a razr phone & removed my charging cord. Now it senses my FOB even if it's in my left pocket. rex32

Start your car
open your door
Raise the window to the top, keep you finger on the button and count to 5
lower the window to the bottom, hold finger on button and count to 5
window will reset

Can OnStar's GM Goodwrench Diagnostics check recognize all codes? I had them check and they said the check came back clear, but I'm assuming there are error codes that do not show up through the OnStar Diagnostics.

And when I went downstairs earlier this morning to do a reset, the window was working fine. No reset necessary.

Lots of issues will fix themselves, especially after driving for twenty-five miles. We have a good wrench under the hood. I don't know many cars that can do that.

BATTERY UPDATE!

I was pulled over by California Highway Patrol. He says he paced me going 90. (Possible). After taking 10 mins to write up a ticket, I go to drive away... but the battery is dead! The only obviously running electrical part was the GPS display.

The citing officer gave me a jump start. How awesome is that? lol

Alibond,
I would strongly recomend getting your XLR to your dealer for repair. It is most likely noting more than just the battery that needs to be replaced. If this problem persists, the battery may go dead and you wont have the kind officer there to give you a jump.

On a serious note, there have been a few batteries on certain 06's that have experienced a shorting problem. The shorting is contained within the battery having nothing to do with the cars electrical system.

Thank you

What color is our 06. I have a blue 05 and spend weekends at Crystal Cove not far from you. Might see each other on the road sometime. Ever go to the 7:00 AM car show on Saturday at the Crystal Cove Premenade?

The first chance I get, I'll take it in for warranty repair. Someone else had already suggested the battery replacement idea, after the first time my battery died. I just thought I would offer a hilarious update of getting a jump start from the CHP.

My XLR is Black, just over a week old. If I can wake up that early, I'll be out next Saturday!

Thanks for all the advice!

Dead battery

It did it again. Battery is dead after just one week. :cry
It had a full charger on it and I drove it for about three hours then let it set for a week.
I have checked to see if anything is on. Lights etc. put can't find anything.

I think I will take it in tomorrow and have them look it over. I just got the recall on the wiring harness for the lights so maybe they can fix that to.

I can't believe they only use a 590 CCA battery in this car. With all the electronics it has I would think they would need/use a bigger battery.:confused

I doubt it as it is new. However, Crystal Cove state beach will show up. The CC Promenade is on your right coming from Laguna Beach (on PCH) shortly after you pass the old El Moro Trailer Park. Anyone can "display" their vehicle, however the gates to the display aea close promptly at 7:00 AM so exhibitors generally arrive quite early.
