Okay - I have the fan on COOL - HI. I can't feel a thing on the drivers side. is that fan that passive, or should I be able to feel soemthing. Also, does it come through the perforated seat backs? Sorry I'm so green, but I've only had it since Friday and the owner's manual is a bit vague.

Rick, make sure it is on Cool HI, it's hard to see and you might have it on Warm HI. If indeed it is on Cool HI you should feel very cool air giving the sensation you have wet pants. The air doesn't come throught the back of the seat.

BTW, That might be a stretch if your old, since the last time you had that feeling could have been 50 years ago.:glol

Bob, and welcome to the forum and enjoy this piece of machinery. If we can of more help, just ask.

Lola's Mom & Dad
Cooled & Heated Seats

**Advanced seats designed for maximum comfort**
Inside the XLR, the application of functional technology starts with the seats, which are the most advanced available. Underneath the luxurious perforated leather exterior trim, the seat structure employs a composite material in place of steel for the back frame, for reduced mass and suppleness.

The seats are both heated and cooled in the back and the cushion. A fan blows air through the seat interior over a thermo-electric ceramic disc, which either heats or cools the air depending on the system setting. Superior to rival cool-seat systems which simply re-circulate air, the XLR's cooling function can lower the temperature an impressive 15 degrees Fahrenheit below the floor temp at high and 7 degrees below at low.

If you positively charge the ceramic disc, it heats it up and blowing air over it will produce 12 degrees above floor temp at low setting and 20 degrees above at the high setting.

Never really felt anything from the back of the seat, but I'm sure you have it right, sorry about the mis-information, just trying to help.

So from what I understand, there are fans which circulate the air in the seat. Is there a way of telling if perhaps the fan isn't working without going to the dealer?

Try laying a sheet of tissue paper in the seat with the seat cooling system on HIGH...........(preferably while you aren't sitting in it and the car is in the garage calm air.) You should see movement.
If you move the seat forward and put your hand under it (from the rear - like you're trying to "goose" it), you can feel the fan housing for the seat cooler- it's round (about 3 or 4 inches in diameter or so) and has a furry filter on it. I can easily feel the air moving if it is on.

PS i suppose the filter could get clogged, but it is probably designed to last a L-O-N-G time. I took mine off (after 10,000 miles) and it looked brand new. The filter comes off by turning it a little to one side or the other, like a pickle jar cap.
My seats cool when I set on COOL HI but only for about 5-10mins and then I forget they're on because they no longer cool. Any ideas out there? I've got an 04, fan has never been a barn burner, wondering if the metal plate thingy needs replacing...
