There appears to be a change forthcoming in the supplier of navigation data. Apparently Cadillac, and maybe other divisions, have signed with TeleAtlas (TeleAtlas.com) to supply the DVD data. I received this information directly from the Cadillac dealer who had called their technical service to answer one of my questions concerning errors within the current database.

I do not know when this change will take effect. In fact, the last time I checked the web site for Tele Atlas it still did not show Cadillac as one of their customers. A subsequent e-mail exchange indicated that they would be updating their web site shortly.

I know this may not be a critical factor for many of the XLR owners, but there are just too many errors that should not be present in an $80,000 car -- even if it is just a navigation system. I am hoping that the new data supplier will correct these and offer an updated DVD shortly.

I tinkk that GM should offer to replace the nav disc for free if there's that many errors on iit.

There are a lot of errors (especially compared to the Infiniti/Zenrin system). A replacement would be great but the question is a replacement with what? I've purchased one update disc and it has the same errors as the original.

While a new vendor is great news, it still will take a while before their database gets integrated with the nav system disc and the disc gets produced and then finally makes it into the supply chain.

The "best" nav/map error in our area is one where the nav system refuses to use a street that is the main local access to a major highway. Apparently about halfway down the street the nav system believes the road ends and then immediately starts again.

Since the nav system believes the road ends and then begins again after a magic barrier, it always tries to detour around the "problem" that doesn't really exist. The result of this is that the system tries to use a different highway which is adds about 20 miles to a 4 mile trip. The Infiniti/Zenrin map doesn't have that problem.

I truly hope the new vendor is better.
