Build codes and VIN #'s are not the same thing. Build codes are a series of letters and numbers used to indicate the month and date (and sometimes day) that a component is built - - for example, the engine block, the transmission, intake and exhaust manifolds, etc.
I'm not sure what "build codes" you are referring to for the XLR, but if you want to supply more information perhaps I can help you decipher them.

The reason I need the last 8 of the vin is so I can bring up that car and see what RPO codes it has and when it was built.

Build Sheets
If anyone would like a build sheet and warranty history of your car, send me the last 8 of your vin. I can bring them with me to BG. You can PM me. These aren't the exact sheets that are used @ the plant but will have all of the info for your XLR.Bruce

I think with a handle like "cadillac tech", you'd know that he has the power..........
The reason I need the last 8 of the vin is so I can bring up that car and see what RPO codes it has and when it was built.

Exactly...RPO = Regular Production Options otherwise known as Option Codes which are listed on RickH's SPID label.
