General help or thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Last time in the dealers, my V came out with a ding (bruise) on the front bumper which raised the spot up a bit and of course cracked the paint on the front and top a wee bit. They have offered to fix it or replace, whichever a outside Paint & Body shop recommends, but I'm wondering if I should wait until I come back from BG because the paint will be so new that it may get many many stone bruises on that 4,000 mile trek.
I can live with the bruise until I get back, so whose in favor of waiting or not:nopity thanks

I'm sorry to hear about the bruise, but 1) glad that you caught it, and 2) glad your dealer will do what is best to repair it.

I'd personally wait. Who knows what evil lurks on that trip to BG? And imagine how unhappy you'd be if you did get a stone chip or other defect after getting it repaired right before the trip! I know how great modern paints are supposed to be, but one can't be too careful..... We promise to ignore it if we see it!

Thanks guys...........Actually I was thinking of doing the 3M thing for the whole front, mirrors and windshield. Then take it off when I get back.
Having taken my 04 back to NJ in 05 I was very upset with all the pit marks in the glass and the stone chips from our wonderful truckers that would pull out right in front of you, and you would swear, without looking.

I will have a knuckle badge on it when I arrive in BG.

You could have it fixed ....and then get a bra or use 3M clear sheeting to protect on the trip. Just a thought...

Regards,

Elfred

Bob,
You know how much I drive my XLR and when I drive from Florida to New Mexico I get stone bruises all the time. So yes, I would not paint until I was back in California.

My first thought was to wait till you get back but the repair and 3M is a good alternative as well. My hood was getting some stone chips on it, higher than I would have thought. I had a detail guy do touch ups all around for $125 a few months ago but I suspect after this trip I will need to call him back in.

Most all the high-end car dealers offer the 3M coverage:cheers It's not an easy do it your self thing. When I go to the Corvette cruz-ins alot of people cover their front ends with Saran wrap or the blue painters tape.:cheers Some even both.:leaving

standby:

I had the same experience--a large "hickey". NOBODY knew how it happened--a mystery!!!

The dealer repaired my old one and you can't see where it was done.

It does take a good knowledgable paint and body man though.

I AM OF THE OPINION THAT CADILLAC SHOULD ADD FRONT SENSORS AND ALLOW ACTIVATION OF THEM VIA ARMING THE ALARM SYSTEM WHEN YOU PARK. That way anybody getting close would hear a beep, beep and MAYBE stop what they were doing.

I suggest you wait until you get back as you mentioned. the newly repaired paint would not cure enough to allow adding the 3M and you might get some reaction in the paint.

Regards

Body Shop

Body shop!
You guys where all right. Will get it done when I come back and also have the two license plate bracket holes filled in. I'm gonna put blue 3-M painters tape on areas that are exposed to the bugs and stones, and take it off when I get to BG, and back on before I leave for the west coast. So if my bumper gets dinged up, no big deal......and it will. Bob
