Gorilla in a Tuxedo

You have to take a V out for a ride to answer that. As I've said many times, it's a gorilla in tuxedo or a squid which is the only living thing in the sea that can kill a shark. Heard that on Boston Legal.

Am thinking of trading my XLR and C6 for XLR-V. love the ride of the xlr but not the handeling. and vice versa on my vette.

Anyone out there with some thoughts?

Red V -

I have a 06 XLR and 06 C6. I have not test driven the XLRV. Is it basically a smoother riding Vette? The problem with the standard XLR is it lacks a sports car feel and handleing for me.

Which do you like better or which do you find yourself driving more?

Thanks

You have both vehicles, why ask us which is the best. Ultimately you are the one that will decide by driving both. Test drive it, what are you waiting for?
I have a V and have rode in a C6 Vette, and would much rather drive my V mainly because it's faster and a softer ride.

The two cars have their strengths and weaknesses, both have the same chassis and magnetic ride, although the XLR is a bit longer version of the chassis. The ride is softer in the XLR and V version although soft ride comes with less handling capabilities. The tire composition and width limits the XLR and the V in their ability to corner and hold traction. They both have the same brakes, as do the Z51 equipped Vette and V.

The C6 in stock trim is much quicker than the XLR and after having ran side by side with a stock V, I can say they are not faster - not slower, but not faster and once you get to the 140 mark it's not a race any longer.

Let's face it, if you want a roadster with lots of class and comfort go for the XLR. If you want all of that and more go for the V. If you want a sports car, pick the Corvette.

This again has to do with who is in the drivers seat. I had no trouble pulling my buddies stock C6 3 times, all three times by a half car length to 80 mph. He owes me lunch. He was in aggressive and I was in Performance in the gate. We did this as a test. Was your meeting with a V by chance or a test. My tires didn't break loose while his did.
I really think their a pretty good match and next time maybe he gets me!

It was a straight up side-by-side for the same reason you did, to determine just how close the two cars are. We also ran side-by-sides with my 03 Cobra, but the results were much different.

There is just no getting around the fact the V weighs over 600 lbs more than the Vette and only has 40 horses/14ft.lbs of additional torque to work with. Now, my particular car is factory equipped with the optional 3.15 rear gears which gives me an edge out of the hole, but most of our runs were from a 35 mile roll. The Vette kicks to low gear at that speed, but they run side by side through most of the spectrum - the next advantage is above 140 where the Vette is still holding in third while the V has jumped to its fifth gear. The Vette shifts from third to fourth at 155 mph and is still climbing.

Bottom line is, they are so close it's not worth the energy trying to prove which is better. I'd rather think they are different - not better unless you prefer a retractable hard top, good looks and limited numbers. If you prefer pure sports car ride and feel you are better off picking the Vette. My friend laughed through the whole process, telling me at the end he was happy since he was leaving in the V and I was leaving in the Vette! All of our runs were done at the Castle Air Base outside of Atwater, CA where a large section of the runways have been utilized for several different types of racing events.

Now, my 03 Cobra ran off and left them both, and not by just a little bit......but that's a different story!

I own both and enjoy both. My vette is a new convert w/6speed. It is very nice and exciting to drive. My V is a fantastic grand touring car. I like it better than the the Mercedes Sl 55 that I owned and drove for a year. The V is fast enough and beautiful to look at. I think it is the pinnacle of American car building. My day to day driver is a Caddy STS -4 which is a fabulous car too.
I think the XLR-V may be a tiny bit quicker to 60 mph than the Vette but I can't tell for certain

I agree with you and believe also that the V is faster to 60 or 90 than a stock Vette, but I'm not prepared to go any higher than that, since my ticket with a helo.
Since I put the switch in to keep my baffles open all the time, I've noticed much more response and by shifting to second at 5200, I get to keep out of the limiter in first gear.
I had a Maserati coupe try me the other day. I think he's at my dealer trading for the V he has on the floor. Really beat him bad

Bob,
you forgot to tell how we did beat the Ferrari on the Vegas strip and when I looked to your speedo you had 90 on:thumbs

Jim, "standby" the guy above is one of the fastest driving americans I ever met.
I`ve had the chance to go to the XLR Rendezvous from LA to ABQ with him and this was a great time, the Rendezvous itself and the 2000 mile ride in his XLR V.

One bad thing, on the last 60 miles to LA we got caught by an helicopter:eek

Baffle module

Here's a link to a picture. When you click on it it will take you to a post I put up about 5 months ago, Click on one of the links and it will take you to Photobucket.com where all my pictures are. If it doesn't load, click on the link that should be on your task bar, then click on thr right icon of the three that are on the picture and you will see all my picture posts. If this is to much I'll repost some pics and details. Ask Hans (Harry)from Germany how it sounds and feels.

panel snaps out then you can work on it

left rear corner of trunk under rug. 3 wires, cut the red one and extend it up to the console through behind the seat.

It is just great to have a choice of sound note in a car and all you have to do is click a switch in the center console, like on Bob`s V.

For long highway drives the regular sound is good but for going through town and shorter distances the open baffle sound is top. It`s a deeper sound and it goes to your ears like "Karajan" with just a switch-click.

That`s the first thing I´ll do when I get my export model V.:thumbs
