Has anyone put this on your car, thin clear plastic that acts as a bra? I am interested in having it installed on my V, hated the way the rocks and bugs pitted the front of my 04. I have been quoted $375 for the front bumper and $550 for the front, hood and mirrors. Supposed to be guaranteed for 5 years, saw a lot of Ferraris this weekend at the Breakers in Palm Beach, there annual get together, that had it installed and it looked good.

When I had my windows tinted the installer put film on the square areas between the grill and the headlights for an extra $30. There wasn't time to do more; he wanted to also do the mirrors; front bumper and door sills.

This stuff is not totally invisible. IMHO it might be unnecessary as I've had barely a handfull of molecule sized chips in total on the last three new cars I've owned. Cars in the south have a easier life though.

It's been noted here before, but I think the cost seemed to be a consideration. I was going to do it for my trip to NYC from California in 05 but had an accident just before I was ready to go. I would have spent this money for nothing had I put it on. Having fresh paint on the front I didn't want to put the plastic on it so I left with fresh paint and came back with not one ding, running most of the time at 90 MPH.
My theory was: When in the lead, no one can throw rocks at the front. Maybe that was Alexander the Greats battle plan, but he died at 32.

I have it installed on my XLR-V.

I have the front, hood, mirrors, A-pillars, and even the rear bumper done.

I've already bumped into something backing up the car, but only scrathed the film... so when I have time, I'll get the film re-done...

It may be a bit expensive, but totally worth it when you compare it to re-painting.

It is a real crapshoot. I was quoted $400 for front bumper and $700 overall so you are doing better than I.

I had it on a Vette and it was fine--you can see it--not really invisable but not so much so that it would bother you. I may get it on my V cause I am using it as a daily driver. I never had it on my 3 Vipers and through 75K miles on my Vipers never really needed it .

One test would be to go out and look at your beasts of burdens--daily drivers, wife's , kids's cars and check conditions--if they look rough get it.

Didn't you hear the ding ding ding when backing up? How do you like where they put the warning lights for the back up chime. You have to be a contortionist to see it and then go to you local chiropractor to get you back fixed.

Actually - no I didn't... I was a pretty cranky that I bumped something, but I've gotten used to the fact that the sensors aren't 100% consistant.

3M clear film installation

I read your inquiry into the clear bra for your XLR and can say that this is my 4th vehicle I have installed the product on. If you are capable of wallpapering then I can say with some confidence that you follow instructions from 3M and you be successful with the product. Installing it on the XLR most panels are flat and the method to install is easy. The secret to a great job is use plenty of soap (DISH detergent) and warter, you cant use too much liquid take your time and you will delighted. You can find these kits on the internet for the XLR.

Up here in New England, I feel itz a must have option. During the winter months, the roads are often treated with sand and salt ... Over time, this has a tendency of etching the paint on the leading edge of your vehicle. An yes, because of the frequent potholes ... Debris is alwayz being kicked up and hurled at your paint and headlights.

I have done both my 04 and 06-V and my only two comments would be to not choose to dark of a tint, especially the back. I don't even do my back window, because it would be to dark to see through the rear view mirror that darkens automatically.
Make sure the tint doesn't have any metal in it because it will block Satellite signals for your XM radio and Onstar signals.

Anybody have their windows tinted? I am thinking of doing mine and wondered how much is a reasonable charge. Are there different quality films? Any help would be appreciated.

OK Mike, I'm sick of looking at these pics of those damn shiney cars that you have gremlins working on it 24/7. Nobodys car should look that good. Wish I had stayed with the infra-red...........I'd do another buy back and get a 2008 in infra-red, but don't have anything wrong with the 07-V..
Don't ask
Bob

I did both of mine, Dark all around, at about $200. each for top quality job.
The dark really changes the whole look of the car
