I like the idea of a group of people helping to plan large national events, it is too time consuming and difficult for 1-2 people to do it, and it is a large responsibility! Jim & Jean know it all too well. More people working together will take some of the load off, as well as give more ideas as to what to do, where to go and what the gifts should be. I am not one for returning to the same place over and over, however if it is more convenient for the majority of the attendees in BG and also for Cadillac for their participation, I am all for it. I feel that giving choices to the members is a great idea! :thumbs
Cadillac has done a tremendous amount for us in the last 2 Rendezvous, I hope that they will continue to support our XLR group. But we would probably need to have the event held where it is convenient for them as well. I would think BG is their best spot. M
I think having two events per year would be great. You get to see the friend's you make more often and discuss new info on the car's. Having one in Texas and one at the home in BG would work great. That way if you miss one event you still have a good chance of seeing everyone at the other. You could call one the "Rendevous" and the other "Going Home", "Wild West XLR" or something. Just a thought.

:yesnod I agree, more events the better. Not everyone can make it to just 1 large event, therefore more date options and more places make it possible for folks to pick and choose when and where they wish to meet up with other XLR enthusiasts. Distance is certainly an issue to consider for people. It is not the name of the event that matters, it is about the cars and the owners getting together and having a great time! Also the caravans getting to the events are quite the treat, seeing the country with some fellow classy wheels. :thumbs

Deals Gap

I did not post or suggest Deals Gap NC but, who ever did it is suppose to be a great place, expecially the "Tail of the Dragon" road. The dam is where they filmed the "Fugitive" movie. The "Dragon" is su[[ose to be one of the greatest road trips in the country with all its twists and turns. My Hot rod early Porsche pals have a weekend booked there next April as it is very busy in the summer. Just thought Id give everyone a heads up about the place since few if any have ever heard about it! Jim Facinelli

Jim,

Been there several times with my Harleys--it is a great place. We stay in Gatlinburg when we go down there. We would have to check to find a good time to go, as there are several events throughout the year that take place in that area which makes it pretty busy i.e. Classic car show, muscle car show motorcycle shows and poker runs, etc. There are a lot of great roads to run down there though, so you could make some side trips to Ashville etc.

By the way the dragon has 318 turns in an eleven mile stretch--pretty awesome, especially on two wheels!!

I posted Deals Gap as a consideration for the very reasons you mentioned in your posts.

I thought many more people were aware of its fame and the fun that we could have going through the turns withour XLRs (while watching out for the local Police)

If you guys think its a good idea maybe we can set up a small gathering at another time to explore it. cubby seems to know far better than I do where the good places to stay and the best sight seeing spots are.

I've only done it on my Harley with a small group of trusted riders.

My folks lived not far from there a few years ago, so I am pretty familiar with the area. I also still have friends down there. Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge area is the big tourist area. As I stated before, if you're interested in going to that area it would be best to find an "off" weekend that doesn't coincide with another event--because traffic becomes a real problem. I was down two years ago during one of the car shows and took over an hour to get through Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg--which is probably on 5-10 miles away from onr another.

There is a lot to do and a lot of nice shopping spots for the women. We tentively have a bike trip planned for there next spring, so I probably wouldn't go back in the XLR next year.

Cubby and X1, I will be there in april with my "R-Gruppe" guys and our early hot rod 911's we have already booked the end of April as it is there slow season and the "Tapoco" lodge right on the water. They only have 6 rooms in the INN but have other Cabins on site. I am looking forward to that in my 2100lb 250hp 73Porsche RS! Yes, I am well aware of the Police. I sure dont need my 42'd speeding ticket and jail time with you Rebels!! I would certainly do another with the X as I just love to drive anywhere! I am writing this from the finger lakes in NY on a wine tour in my Rolls Shadow! It was a 10+ day full fall color 68 deg no wind all sun !! It dosen't get any better than this!!!! Be well! Jim

I guess I'm envious because the fall would be nice up there ths time of year. BUT shortly there will be ....that white stuff.

Please enjoy yourselves as I am sure you will.

How about something out west. Getting to one of these places and back would about double the mileage on my XLR.
There are many gathering throughout...big & small...road trips, shows, racing events.....you can always make your own in your preferred area. Get ahold of your dealers and spread the word, let the service department know what you are trying to do, give them a few flyers, and while they service other XLR's they can give them your flyer. Even a gathering of 5-10 is lots of fun, then it can grow bigger. :yesnod
Have fun!

Hey everyone:
Vicki and I have been discussing this 2009 location and have a couple of thoughts. If we are truely interested in growing our XLR group, then getting the new XLR owners to come to Bowling Green to see where the car they purchased was built seems like like a good draw. We may also enjoy the :cheersadded support from the factory if we keep it in BG. Just some ideas, we really enjoyed 2008 and plan to come in 2009.

We hope to get back on planning for the event after the first of the year and when Cadillac has a better sense of what they will be able to do and when it will be convenient to them.

We already have a lot of the behind the scenes preplanning done thanks to Mea and Allen and others.

Happy New Year!!

Vote on 2009 Rendezvous site

I would vote for Bowling Green for 2009 Rendezvous location. Especially if the XLR is still being produced! I don't know how many more years Cadillac will be producing the XLR and it seems like if we want to see it being produced in the factory each year, maybe we need to choose Bowling Green each year at least until they stop producing the car. That's my "2 cents" worth opinion. Thanks - great forum!
Rick:

Welcome to the Forum!! We hope you enjoy your membership and the knowledge you gain here about the XLR.

We'll be going to Bowling Green IF things are worked out for the workers. We' should know fairly soon.

Regards

I would definatly be interested in Boling Green. In fact I live 100 miles from there I would be willing to help out.

Thanks for volunteering!!! We are in touch with the executives at Cadillac and all are patiently waiting to see what happens with GM, the XLR and Bowling Green. Once we know what we are dealing with we will start to plan on what we can do and when.

Thanks very much for your offer and for your patience.

:cheers Rick.. good point, I hope the days of BG or XLR production aren't numbered, but just in case might be good to do it there.
