I'm deciding which car to buy - an '05 or '06, while I make plans to rob the Bank of America to get the dough -

It seems than an '04 is out of the question for me because of the myriad of problems I've read about on this and the other boards.

I don't see many problems coming up in the '05 or '06 models - and the Bank of America don't have enough dough on the teller lines to get an '07 - so no Amethyst XLR for me.

So, is my perception that the '05 and '06 are roughly equal in dependability?

Are there any model changes between the two years that make the '06 worth the extra dough?

As Hans states the biggest factor other than price is color choice, although another cosmetic change on the 06 and later is the addition of the dash wood trim at the CD slot. I am also looking and would consider a late 04 (you can tell by the serial number) as I think they are identical to the 05s in terms of reliability.

I have a late production 04 (made in June 2004), and have had very little issues with it. I bought it early this year with 9000 miles on it, and I'm rapidly approaching 14000!

The cupholders do get a little warm but not obnoxiously hot.

If you're really giddy about the wood in the center, you can replace the HVAC controls and get a new upper bezel. Um, I hate to admit it, but yes, I did it! :rolleyes

Headlights

In addition to the wood added at the cd slot, the 06 model got the adaptive headlights and put the xm radio antenna in the mirrors instead of the bump on the trunk.
jamsto, by "adaptive headlights", do you mean ones that track with the turning of the wheels?

During my recent tour of the BG Assembly Plant, I thought I heard the tour guide say something like that, but later thought I misunderstood. XLR KEN

That's right, the headlights turn 30 degrees with the wheel. Hard to notice it working unless your in front of a wall. When the car starts up they reset every time. You can see them on the wall in the garage.

IF PRICE IS A CONSIDERATION... I wouldn't rule out a 2004 expecially if it's Cadillac Cerified!!! The reason is that the car is brought up to current specs, electronics, brakes and tires -- and the car is guaranteed like the other for 5 years or 100k miles.

The pricing is ROUGHLY 2004's $40's, 2005's $50's 2006 $60's 2007'S $70'S FOR GOOD CARS!!! Of course there are variations to these general guidelines.

Ya, price is important - I have had a string of Eldorados - last one was a 98 Touring - that got stolen last month - and it was a certified. It was in the dealer's once every three months or so for warranty stuff - which they mostly accomplished. Funny - once it was out of warranty, it stopped breaking, and the repairs from 65k miles to 92k miles were reasonable for its age and mileage.

I'm tempted by the 04 amethyst - I love the color - reminds me of the mid '60's Chevies that had a light metallic lilac sort of color, which was beautiful. But, there's not a single amethyst for sale in the USA at this time, according to cars.com. and autotrader.com.

Thanks all for the input - I'm off to rob the bank!!!!!!!!

I have a 2004 which you can look at in BG and see for yourself if in your assessment the $10-$12k incremental increses are worth it.

I get a freee loaner everytime I go inot the Caddy dealer and am treated just as I was when I was leasing the car. So I'm just saying assess allof the options carefully andf make the selection that works for your particular needs.

rufcar has an 04 too that will be there.
