My elderly father has a 2006 XLR which he recently lost both a fob and emergency key for. We found a replacement fob online but as to the emergency key having no luck. I can find blanks but I have no idea how to get a new emergency key. Can local dealers still care of this given the age of the car?
Last year, I purchased a new fob that had an uncut emergency key. My dealer cut the key for my '08 XLR at no charge. Of course, I was paying them a couple of grand for other work I wanted done. They may have to request the key code from Cadillac for your father's XLR. Good luck!
You can download the Apple or android app which allows you to photograph your XLR Key for them to use as the pattern to cut the key from and mail the key to you. I think it’s only $10-20 bucks to get the key cut.
From what i understand he does not have a factory key to photot or duplicare. Yes the dealer can order one by vin. You will most likely need the vin, title and drivers liscense to order one .most likely 50$. Beware of any locksmith fooling with the bumper emetgency lock. They will screw it up. There are no new ones and a used lock and key will set you back 2-300$ and about 2-400 labor to instsll it.
