Map Pocket

Does anyone know how to replace the map packet on the driver's side? Do you have to remove the entire door panel?

You are correct - the driver door trim panel must be removed to get the storage tray out. Lower the window and remove the plug behind the inside door handle to access the screws. Using a trim removal tool, remove the plastic retainers along the side of the door panel. You have to get the tool in the right spot before you pry them out or you can damage the retainers. Lift the panel up and pull it away from the door. After that, remove the four screws that secure the storage panel in place on the door trim panel.

Ok I'll give it a shot. Hopefully I won't break any of the retainer clips.

Thanks for the info.

Are the plactic retainers the "standard" GM "fir tree" types?

ccclarke,

The courtesy light must also be removed; there is a bolt behind there holding the door panel secure. After that the rest is correct. It also seems best to start at the bottom of the door panel first. Hope this helps.

The shop manual doesn't show the retainers, nor do the parts lists I've checked out online, so I can't say what type they are. It does describe them as male retainers that fit in a female receptacle, and cautions you to place the trim removal tool between them rather than under the female receptacle to avoid damage when prying them apart. The book recommends starting with the aft-most retainer about 2 inches from the bottom of the door. and working forward.

Hope this helps.
