Transmission woes

This has happened twice now. Starting off with fluids cold, when coming to a stop sign after driving no more than 35mph, as the trans shifts down it is like you slammed on the brakes. It did it back in the winter, only once, so I thought nothing about it as it was a 1-time occurrence, but now it is hot here and it did it 3 times in a short stretch of road, any ideas?

Make sure the fluid is full. The transmission will act weird if there isn't enough fluid in it.

It may make sense to visit your local dealer and have them come up with the cause.

I was having a similar problem, which was happening all of the time. Mine is a 2007 under warranty. They tore my trans down 2 times replacing many things, before they finally replaced the computer on the third time. It is supposedly inside the trans and adjust for the different driving habits between driver 1 and 2. It now drives perfectly.

Re: transmission woes

I took it to the dealer last week, and this is most important, they scanned the codes in the computer, because it logs all occurrences, code P1825 shows an electronic switch in the trans is malfunctioning. My local dealership is not authorized to work on this car so we have to send it on a tow truck to the closest Cadillac dealership today. Supposedly not a big deal,of course I hope that is the case, so will report back once it's repaired.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

I hope it turns out to simply be the switch.

Transmission woes

They had our car repaired over night and it was the electronic switch in the transmission! While they had it apart they also serviced it with a new filter and fluids. But the most important thing I learned, again, if there is a problem on these cars, have your dealer hook it up to their scanner for any error codes.

And you need to take it to a certified XLR mechanic for repairs in the future. There will be more strange happenings in the future with this vehicle.
