1 XLR,

Great idea. I hope things have changed in BG with the last month since I was last there. The absence of XLR acknowledgement and pride is of concern. The XLR is the flag-ship of the Cadillac fleet, so you'd think it would be much different.

1. The small gift shop (staffed by retired UAW) in the plant-tour waiting area only had a few Corvette T-Shirts (a dozen styles). No other desirable souvenirs were available.......AND NO XLR ITEMS! None. Zero. Zilch. Nada..............

2. The National Corvette Museum which we will visit, across the road from the GM Plant, had a massive collection of Corvette souvenirs, clothing, and an abundance of other very nice items related to Corvettes.........BUT NO XLR ITEMS. Not even a keychain.

With us coming to BG in force, I hope they both have recognized their short coming and have corrected this injustice to those of us who own XLRs and Cadillac as a whole. I had voiced my disappointment after visit to BG last month and received a very positive and appreciated reponse from Cadillac. They too were aware of this situation and that it was to change soon.

The corvette museum does not stock any XLR merchandise and didn't appear to want to take advantage of the "captive audience" that would be there for the Rendezvous. MR XLR is working on getting XLR and XLR-V merchandise to the Rendezvous for Saturday so that it will be availble for purchase at the Park n Shine.

Cool

I too would like to see more XLR merchandise not only at the BG plant but from Cadillac themselves. I spoke with the plant controller last year during our XLR visit and expressed to him about the lack of XLR merchandise and he said he woul d look into it. You're not going to find any XLR merchandise at the NCM. The plant is our only hope. I think with more XLR visits and more owners asking for merchandise the faster things will get done. For some reason people in marketing don't think XLR owners want to buy XLR stuff.

To those who would like to see the Corvette Museum more involved with XLR... it probably will never happen. The Corvette Museum is not a part of GM... they are separate and they are very focused on their core mission; the Corvette and its history. While we are cousins with many shared parts, they are still a Corvette organization.

Corvette plant in Bowling Green to layoff 110

Plant in Bowling Green to layoff 110

By Jenna Mink - The Daily News

General Motors intends to lay off 110 workers in January and shut down production for two weeks at its Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green as it slashes Corvette production from 15 vehicles an hour to 11.

The plant also will shut down its Cadillac XLR production during December, temporarily laying off about 30 employees who work on the XLR line. The layoffs in January affect Corvette and Cadillac XLR production workers. The plant employs about 800 workers.

Plant officials informed employees of the cuts Friday morning.

"Most of our employees knew that more changes would be made to our production schedule based upon more recent sales figures," said Andrea Hales, communications director for the Bowling Green plant. "I just don't know if they expected it to be as big of an impact as what we announced this morning."

Company-wide, GM plans to cut 5,500 jobs and warned Friday that it might run out of money by the end of the year.

The January cuts in Bowling Green top a list of gloomy announcements for GM workers this month. Last week, officials announced plans to close the plant for a week in December to re-evaluate inventory and lessen production numbers for the month.

About a month ago, the Bowling Green plant closed for a week to slice Corvette production from 18.5 to 15 vehicles an hour, a move that resulted in about 70 lost jobs.

Plant officials plan to cut XLR production in 2009 but said they do not yet know details of the production cuts. Officials also are not sure whether the Corvette line will face further cuts next year, Hales said.

Corvette sales took a nosedive in the past few months. Sales plummeted about 53 percent in October compared with sales through October last year. Cadillac XLR sales decreased 56 percent this year compared with sales through October 2007.
