Question

Hi Blue Steel Baby, I too have a Blue Steel. WE live just outside of Albuquerque, NM., hey, on your way to AZ, why don't you call us and you can see all 3 of our XLRs and maybe have dinner, or lunch, or breakfast, depending on what time you get here, if you like. My email address is: [email protected]. Just give me an email, mention your user name on here and then we can exchange numbers, if you want to.
Enjoy your new car and welcome to XLR Forum.

XLR Color Breakdown

Many people have asked, "What is the hot color" or "What do most people order on their XLR". Please understand, with over 50% of the Cadillac dealers received only one XLR for the entire 2004 model year.

Many of the colors that were sold were very possibly not the first or even the second choice of the people that purchased them. Quite a few people were so grateful to get their hands on a roadster they grabbed what ever color they could get their hands on. Later when these owners saw a different color, many wished they had custom ordered their XLR.

Here is the complete breakdown for the exterior/interior that were for the 2004 XLR Roadster.

Interior/ Exterior Colors Actual Build
The Numbers and the percentages don't match, Allen.
Eyedoc,
I just rechecked the numbers that I posted and they both add up to 100% of the 2004 production. If my math is off somewhere please tell me.

Colors

I've seen all but the steel blue. All cars look good in black. The XLR looks good in all colors. But, I seem to like the Xenon as the sharpest looking color. But, as with the red & black, impractible...every finger print can be seen (I saw many on the black one in a showroom). So, I would opt for the platinum (on my CTS) or the Nickel, which quite frankly, looks great on the car!

Raw Numbers

The raw numbers don't seem to match the percentages (the numbers to the left of the color). Unless those are numbers that designate the color and not numbers of cars sold.

Actual Numbers

I am sorry for not explaining that, those are your car colors such as 95 is Ultra Violet. They have nothing to do with the count.

XLR Premium Care Warranty

Note: I am posting this here for the simple reason that quite a few people have had the wrong idea of the coverage of the maitenance warranty. This is a large thread and the majority of members will see this. I made a new thread under Technical regarding this matter.
Allen

There seems to be a big misunderstanding about what is covered under the XLR's inclusive maintenance. The program is called "XLR Premium Care". The warranty covers Cadillac's scheduled maintenance (not the dealers recomendations).

The XLR should have a single oil & filter change every 10,000 miles or 10 month intervals. You may also have it changed under warranty when the message in the DIC (Driver Information Center) says change oil now.

If your dealer tell you that you need to change it more often, then dont be surprised if you receive a bill for it. If your dealer is not a large XLR sales point, they may not realize the warranty coverage until after you have left and they try to process a warranty claim.

Your XLR is filled with Mobil One oil, it is synthetic and does not require the old fashioned 3month/3000 mile changes. Mobil One is also quite a bit more expensive than traditional oils, and will not be happy when they realized they made a mistake.

Evey Cadillac dealer has a copy of the "XLR Premium Care" guide. As a courtesy to my clients I copy the guide on 8 1/2 x 11 card stock and give each of my owners a breakdown of the coverage.

I have the complete premium care guide posted on my site, feel free to take a look or copy it for your records. Here is the direct link for the Premium Care.

Cool

Allen,
"Mr. XLR" as alway you are nice enough point out what we may have missed in the owners manual, or were not told by our dealer.
Most of us don't read the manual till something does not work or it breaks.
With this car I think we all have to at least go thru the manual once just to get the high lites of how to make all the great features work but miss the things that we think are the same on ALL cars.
Only thing you need to change in your tip is on the oil change it 12 months not 10. I think this was just a type O on your part.

Thanks for the tips.

I must have a color nobody likes!!!!!

Well, no thunder gray over here
But it`s still my favorite color
The first XLR I drove was in aug/2003 in Bowling Green/Ky even before the dealers had them, the color was crimson-pearl with shale. I saw the XLR`s that time in all available colors beside the (Neiman Marcus Edition)
All the colors looked good but for me the Thunder-Gray/Shale was the nicest comination
So I got me my favorite color and all people like this comination.

BTW what you guys think about the moonstone (avail. for the SRX - CTS and STS)
I would love this color on the XLR but only with shale interior.

Thanks
Harry

Hi Bob,
here in germany we call it "anthrazite", I would say it`s the color between my thunder gray and black.
when you take your XLR out for a ride stop by a cadillac-dealership, you can see the color there on some SRX`s or the new STS.
I might buy an STS as soon the come over here and told my dealer I like to have
this color - he said NO PROBLEM
Bob, by the way it`s nice talking to you

Thunder Grey Rock(ed)

I thought Thunder Grey was the classiest color . . . too bad they discontinued it! Of the current colors, I like the Steel Blue best, but it seems to be the hardest to find. I bought Satin Nickel . . . had a choice between that color and the Crimson Pearl. I get enough speeding tickets as it is, and figured a red car would just compound the problem!

I do MUCH PREFER the shale interior. The darker interior is just TOO dark!

2006 Infra Red on the XLR-V

On the 2006 XLR the red is leaving the current Crimson Red, and going to Infra Red. Infra Red is brighter with much more metallic flake in the paint for light refraction. This is not a flat bright red that absorbs color, The flake that makes this happen is called Xirallic.

For those that have been waiting, The new XLR-V site just opened to coincide with the roadsters unveiling. You will find the precise specs, hundreds of photos(adding daily)and videos of the Supercharged XLR-V as well. Simply go to:
