Trade It In?

i bought myself an 05 xlr and i wanted to know if i should trade it in for the v series or just fix it up. i was leaning towards trading it in because i think it will cost more if i fix it up to make it exactly or better then the v series. what do you think?

You can fix it up, but I don't think you can get it better or even comparable to the V at any reasonable price

101 degrees yesterday, 20 minute traffic jam on the 91 fwy
and some DIC comes on and tells me the Engine is Hot...Turn Off A/C ...........What's up with that??
This is a 75K luxury auto in perfect working condition, we're not talking a 64 VW here!
It's 101 degrees out the F'n A/C stays on....Sorry DIC!!

in 64 no VW had an aircondition :lol but you are right, this shouldn`t happen in our XLR`s. But don`t take this messages too serios, I`ve had on mine with topdown "top is not secure" another time the "check engine light" came on but these all happens only 1 time and they never came back on.

101 degrees, pretty hot we`ve got right now about 70°, send 15° to germany than we both got good weather.

Any attempt to pull more horsepower out of the XLR in its present configuration would lead to extreme overheating problems. I will be really interested in seeing how they deal with the heat coming from the smaller, forced induction motor they are using in the "V" series. Now I know why they require synthetic oils in this thing.

so I listen to my DIC when it tells me what to do.

Engine temp was 260 range, so the message was right.
The car just can't take the heat, and it should!!

If there taking out the ACC in 06 and giving us more ventilation into the engine compartment, why don't they install a fan to blow through there. That would solve the problem while sitting in traffic...............engineer's my butt.

We had the heat from that "High" in June sitting right over us. No rain the whole month, and bakin' hot. It drifted west, and now you've got it. :cuss

We're having 76 degrees, 100% humidity and afternoon rain, so it feels very tropical - much like the Indian Monsoon. The ferns like it. Very mild for late July. :D I'm not complaining.

XLR is tucked cozily away in the garage, and the foul weather vehicles are in use. Airplane is grounded.

Imagine that 130 degF heat in Dubai....

trhat pinging wasn't from lack of octane, it was the radiator boiling!
There's no way this car could survive that environment.

I think there's alot that can be done to open up the front end without removing the ACC. (And I don't mean like you did)
There's alot of unnecessary plastic IMO

I realize they sealed the upper grille area to eliminate water and dirt from entering into the compartment as well as too much air flow would require a vent to keep the hood from being "lifted" at speed. However I would think that could be designed to fit both needs; additional air flow for cooling as well as reducing debris intake.

All I can tell you is that a S/Ced engine as small as they are proposing (even with an innercooler and a heat exchanger) will generate tons of heat and will need a lot more air than is being flowed right now.

Cruising home last week through the valley my outside temp gauge said 107 and my water temp was around 240. When I dropped off the freeway and got on the surface streets the temp gauge jumped up another 10-15 degrees. That's just too darn hot in my opinion, even for an engine as advanced as the Northstar running synthetic lubricants. I can see seals, bearings and many of the plastic parts beginning to break down within a year or two.

Thank heaven for that warranty then!

Well, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for better circulation under the hood of the 06. BTW, the 04 is back in her stall. Allen Cadillac does it again. You would never know it was kicked in the face. I wish all you guys were able to have the serivice we do at Allen Cadillac.

After further evaluation, my front end is a different color tone than the rest of the car. They where paid to fade the paint into the doors which they didn't do. It's quite involved, because they have to take the guts off the doors and remove the mirrors and I guess he thought he could get away with it. I'm sure Scott Allen is not going to be pleased come Monday morning. The hood also doesn't fit correctly and needs attention, otherwise I guess I get to use it to go back east next Saturday.Agree, Bob, Allen is great. Any further word on the Chip Foose deal? :flag

The body man, Jim Smith, is known even by the employees at Allen's as being very arrogent and says he is the best body man around. If you don't believe me, just ask him.
They did give me two new tires based on one coming apart, so I took it out on the 73 up to 120 http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/18/18_3_108.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm414YYUS) for a short stretch and found it to rock steady without any movement in the front end.
I think I'll park it until I leave Saturday just so nothting else happens
