i have a 2004 red xlr, what a fabulous vehicle, going on 36,000 miles; the hardback 'Cadillac XLR' book, by John McCormick is a great insight into the development of this vehicle, a must read (Wordhouseauto.com). I want satellite radio, preferably Sirius, unfortunately the code "U2K" is not on the sticker in the trunk (U2R is), and the bands on the screen show 2 AM, 2 FM, and a weather selection. Can anyone tell me if this stock radio be programmed to receive XM ?
Thanks, Ron

Welcome to the XLR Forum!!

We hope you enjoy your membership here.

To answer your question about your radio I THINK it had to come configued for XM or you would have to pay big $$$$ for a replacement unit. You definitely would if you want Sirius Satellite radio since GM didn't support it.

Regards

Jerry

The costs associated with retrofitting an S-Band receiver, antenna and stock wiring harness are astronomical compared to installing an aftermarket XM unit that can be received through the XLR's FM receiver. There may be a unit out there that can plug directly into the S-band receptacle on the stock head unit.

Or, you could hit the online salvage yard circuit and cobble one togther.

Your vehicle harness has the satellite connector built in. This company has the Sirius tuner that connects directly to the harness: http://www.tss-radio.com/products/si...ent-xm-harness

I ordered the adapters described below for the XM tuner I purchased, but had to use the harness that comes with the Sirius tuner to attach it to the vehicle's harness. The company linked above sells the Sirius tuner you need. It comes with the correct harness and is a plug and play. I know this because I purchased it, hooked it up, then decided to go with an XM tuner. It's all explained below.

I posted this a few months back. It should get you all you need:

These 2 items should interface with the installed radio in the X. XM says these are what's need. The tuner was out-of-stock for a while, but as soon as it became available, I ordered it. Looks like a bargain. I'll update after they're installed.

Connector supplied by XM/Terk vs connector used by GM, no go.
Ok, let's try plugging unit directly into the rear of the radio just as the instructions read.
After thoroughly reading the take-your-car-apart instructions read on another forum, and proceeding carefully, as I believe any good brain surgeon would, I had the radio in my hands.
NO GO! The harness/connectors supplied by XM/Terk will not mate with the radio no way, no how.
Terk is closed today so I'll contact them Monday and report progress. Not looking good at this point.
I'm having a beer now; contemplating buying XM receiver directly from GM or serving up some nice sarcasm when I speak to Terk. Perhaps both.

Final update:
After getting the correct harness (http://www.tss-radio.com/products/si...ent-xm-harness) $17.99, it was a simple plug and play. Every thing tucked in out of the way using Velcro and tie wraps. The main tuner unit is mounted upside down under a factory-mounted flat metal bracket mounted between the roll bar supports. The magnetic antenna sits atop this plate which is under the cover of the LED back-up warning unit. It seems to be transparent enough so far, top up or down, all compass orientations giving good signal strength.
For those wanting to do this a warning: the harnesses shipped with the units WILL NOT WORK. They are completely wrong for both the XLR radio and factory XM harness connector. Order the correct harness from the link posted above and save yourself a lot of grief (I spent too much time on the phone learning this!) Neither SiriusXM, My Radio Store or Terk will send you the right harness. Their customer service is less than worthless for anything other than sending your money back.
Much thanks to CC Clarke for his tremendous help getting pin-outs and schematics so that I could solder the wires directly if it came down to that...which it didn't thankfully!
The radio display when in XM mode works flawlessly and is very intuitive.

Good luck!

Thanks very much for posting your experience and solution.

Very few people have expressed an interestin doing this but for those who are you have made the process easy.
