: IN 2 1/2 DAYS - 4200km OR 2625 MILES
harrysxlr 02-06-2005, 02:51 AM Hi, there,
once a year I have to make a big trip from Kitzingen/Germany to Alicante/Spain.
I could take a plain but I own good cars and like to drive.
For this trip, its one way 2050 km (1281 miles) I drove the other years with my Vette, my DTS and last november for the first time with my XLR.
I started monday nov 8 at 5.30 am arrived 8.12 same day in Torrevieja (30 miles behind Alicante) driving time was 14 hours. My eyes were red but I felt fine!
Tuesday nov 9 I did in the morning hours my business, what I was there for and at around 2 pm I start the way home.
But this time I stayed for one night at a Hotel in Lyon/France, so I made from Torrevieja to Lyon, thats 1200 km ( 750 miles ) start 2 pm arrived in Lyon 10.45 pm driving time was about 8 hours.
Wednesday nov 10 at 9 am I started the last trip fom Lyon to Kitzingen - 850 km
thats ( 530 miles) and I arrived at home 3.12 pm - driving time was about 5.45 hours.
The car was great in all ways and for this alltogether 42oo km (2625 miles) I had an avg fuel consumption of 12.6 liters/100 km thats 20.5mi/gallon. and avg speed of 153 km thats 95 miles.
After this trip my XLR was thirty as never before, the wheels were all black from the brake dust but the next day after cleaning it looked like new again.
Only thing I had to do was add a half quard of oil, but I did this with a big smile!!!
These new generation CADILLACS are great :flag
thanks
Harry
BUDSVET 02-06-2005, 07:17 AM Well done. These autos will go fast and long without trouble. I just had my third oil change qand I have never had to add any oil between changes. I am on my second tour around the states and have yet to see another XLR on the street. the guys must only drive them on sunday. am now in Colorado Springs and the xlr just turned on 27,000 miles, not one problem in ten months.

Hi Budsvet,
27K in ten months thats pretty much, I got on mine about 18K km thats about 11250 miles. On my vacation last summer in florida I saw some day up to three XLR`s. Well, here in germany they are very rare (sold last year about 200).
With the oil consumtion for that kind of trip I did, thats ok for me. You must know I drove the car mostly in the 130-160 kp/h range, thats between 80 and 160 mph.
No problems on mine beside maybe anybody turns his or her`s head when they see an XLR. But thats no problem, mostly I just :)
Harry
BUDSVET 02-06-2005, 10:10 AM I could only get mine up 155mph, I think my computer cut it off. I just came up from Key west and it was chilly there. it's as warm here as it was in the keys a couple of weeks ago. I spent about four years in your neck of the woods back in 1972, motorcycled all over.

Budsvet,
the export-model is not speed-limited, in my papers it says top speed 250 but I had it almost to 270 km. Didn`t shut off.

Harry, welcome to the forum. I was in Frankfurt June 2004, and may have occasion to make it over sometime in mid March on my way to Milano.
To post photos, make a message just as you have been, then scroll down to "Manage attachments". You should be able to upload photos by browsing to them on you computer. The only catch is that they have to be fairly small, so if you get an uploading error, you'll just need to resize you photo using Windows Photo Editor or your favorite equivalent.

PS I really only speak very little Deutsch, and usuall embarrass myself horribly when trying...
BUDSVET - It looks as if you are a fellow aviator. I have a 1975 Cessna 210. I love the photos, dude. Is that you on the john? No offense, amigo, but I'm far more impressed by the XLR on front of the 1960 Piper Comanche. :lol
standby 02-07-2005, 04:42 PM Sorry Harry,

Is this right or did I have another brain fart? That's not to fast, I've had mine to 130 on the local freeway. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

harrysxlr 02-08-2005, 02:00 AM Hi Bob,
I still think in 27.45 hours of driving 2625 miles isn`t bad.
Especially when you think about that there is no speed limit in germany, but in france and spain.
A good average I made yesterday, was from Kist to Heilbronn thats 100 km (62miles) in 21 minutes. No traffic there, had it the whole way between 160 and 260 km.
Aviator,
your Xenon blue looks good, that was the two I could chose from but I took the Tunder-gray. Vielen Dank to welcome me to the forum :)
Harry
and now I´ll try again for pic!!!!!
harrysxlr 02-08-2005, 02:29 AM It looks as I´m to stupid, but never had a problem before

BUDSVET 02-08-2005, 10:39 AM Aviator; I do fly a bit and no that pic of a guy setting is not me, but could be. I just came through you little village about a 10 days ago on my way here to Colorado Springs. going to fly off the slopes next week then to AZ. and then on to CAL-I Forn Ia until it warms up back in WV. Life is a bitch when you pass 75. Oh by the way they deleted my pic of the drunk sitting on the throne. :flag :) :jester

We know your smarter than camera, now get with it and do this thing before I have to come over to Germany and do it for you.
You need to look at that pop up really careful.
1 It might tell you your picture is to big
2..It might tell you you don't have enough room in your photo album
3..I had a little trouble with the pop up until I started to read everything after I tried to upload.

Hi Pamlicopirate,
no, I have three double garages.
Your black raven/black looks very elegant and I like the wheels you got on.
Is the white diamand EXT yours too?
Thanks
Harry
mswaim 02-10-2005, 12:09 PM I also note the presence of Black Lightning in the background of one of your photos. I've owned two of them, a 99 and an 02. You have to respect a 5,000 truck that runs 5 second 0-60 times and with only a few hundred dollars in mods will run 1/4 times in the 12 second range.
pamlicopirate 02-10-2005, 07:57 PM The lightning is my sons (one of the quickest I've ever driven) can't wait for the V should give it a run in the 1/4. The EXT is a company truck.
mswaim 02-10-2005, 09:46 PM Your son has great taste in vehicles! I've been lucky enough to own four different SVT vehicles, two Cobras (97 & an 03) and two "L's".
My 02 Lightning had the usual bolt-ons, all JLP equipment with one of Danny Swanson's most aggresive street tunes specifically set for our 91 octane fuel here in CA.
I ran it many times at Famoso and was always amazed at the performance levels, especially when you keep in mind how much it weighs.
I had it dyno-tuned by Danny Swanson when he tuned it, the final numbers were 432 hp and 511 ft. lbs. on the torque side. Best et was 12.35 @ 109 mph.
Gotta love that kind of power and still be able to tow the boat to the lake.
Does your son post on the f150online forum? Lots of Lightning gear-heads over there.

smckullie 02-24-2005, 10:15 PM My car is an expendable asset. You are right, somebody did give me that money to buy that car, I mean, yeah, it must be nice to buy about an 80 grand car in cash. Heh. I have an 05 GTO with Blue Leather too, and I really drive the hell out of that thing, more so than the XLR, I mainly drive the XLR aggressivly to either impress someone or to make a showy entrance, but my XLR is more of a showy car, but I still drive it like it's meant to be driven, showing all of the yo-boys with their Chevy Cavalier's and their Honda Civic's with exhaust systems that sounds like someone blowing raspberry's in a soup can that they're car's a piece of junk. I have so much done to my XLR it's not even funny...When I floor it from a dead stop, the back tires spin for about 4 seconds before it grabs traction and shifting from gear to gear, the tires chirp. There have been times when the road is wet where it will not even grab traction, it'll just sit there and spin. I remember this one time I was coming onto a major interstate near my house and I came on doing about 15 in first gear, and I had to get into the flow of traffic so I really layed on the throttle. Well, it had been raining heavily that day, so when I went from first to second gear, instead of the tires chirping, they just spun for like 10 seconds until I let go of the throttle. lol...Powerful car. :reddevil :reddevil :reddevil :reddevil :reddevil :reddevil :reddevil :reddevil

I have a few miles on a pretty wide variety of cars... driven in a pretty wide variety of conditions. I've generally found the limits of most cars I've ever owned.
What ever your story is - and I'm sure you're sticking to it - you have to be at least driving with the active handling turned off. (The ABS would make the first trick - um quite impressive) Should you succeed in celebrating your 24th birthday intact... you may learn the value of that technology. In the mean time, you probably aren't interested in hearing it. Good luck my young friend!:seeya

YES! I have found one place in a friends neighborhood where the pavement is very slick, but dry. It has several stop signs and I can easily break traction from a dead stop and spin them for a good 15-20 feet. Michelin Piolt AS 275/30/20.
It's the only place I can make it happen...It's in Santa Ana...I'll meet you there!

Thanks

Hi Bob,
I try to explain how I can here my tires!
Ok, if I go from a side road to a main-road, to the left or right I put my steering wheel halfways to the direction and push the gas-pedal full down(TC OFF).
The wheels spin about one and a half car lenghts and the back comes out a little
but there`s no problems to get the car straight. I don`t do it often, only sometimes :D this michelin`s sounds good!!!!
Once a friend of mine washed his car at his driveway and some water were on the raod, just my back tires went on the wet and he asked me to do a good start - well, I did. With the TC off on the wet ground I got over two car-lenghts wheel spinning. :thumbs
But as you said, on dry ground you will only get a little chiiirrrrpppp. :yesnod
Thanks
Harry

The active handling includes traction control. It will throttle back when the wheels start slipping. Turn it off for pretty free tire spin, but remember you will have no help when the back end breaks free. I've seen a number of Vettes bust out and get hurt that way. You can get the spin started by dumping in some throttle with the brakes on, then kill the brakes and floor it.

Hi Caly,
I know this, like on my vette I also have the "performance mode" but if you know how to drive it`s no big thing.
One time on a wet road I did it with my 98 C5 Coupe and almost but only almost I would hurt my vette. Well, I was lucky but never tried it on wet surface again.

Performance Chip
Turbocharged
Bigger Rotors and Brake Pads (Performance, Slam on the brakes going 100, stops in 7.5 seconds)
After Market Rims
After Market Throttle Body With Bigger Plug Wires
Upgraded Performance Ignition Parts
Upgraded ECU Shift Points and so you can slap shift it using the tapshift feature...(The tapshift shift does whenever you do, there's no safety features, it's just like a manual)
Enhanced Suspension System with Modified Corvette Parts, thing will take turns doing about 95.
Yeah, 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, 1/4 Mile=7.5 Seconds
About 800 Horses and about 900 LBS of Torque.
BTW, there's no safety lockouts on the car, no governer either, damn thing will do about 185 before it tachs out, it can cruise 180.

Halleulia, amen!
smckullie 03-03-2005, 06:40 AM I bull**** you not! I guarentee you this is all accurate! I paid a shop 45 thousand to do all this, everything is custom built, the turbo kit, the ignition system, all custom. It's not cheap, but if you guys want me off the forum, I understand. Just give me the word and I'll be gone. It took about 3 months to do all this, in that time, the car was undrivable, the dude who did it is one of my best friends, he had the entire engine ripped out of the car.
Robin 03-03-2005, 07:31 AM What did you have done to The Transmission to stand up to 800 pony's ????
BUDSVET 03-03-2005, 07:34 AM where is this machine located, I would love to see it and watch it preform. I love fast cars and women and get rid of them both at about the same speed. when I pick up my new C6Z06 next oct. time frame we could compare preformance. Don't leave the forum, stick around and you may gain some friends. have a good day. :cuss :boxing :banghead
the ignition system
Did you use a D.U.I. or Mallary?
BUDSVET 03-03-2005, 08:01 AM I could never find the D.U.I. system, but I do use the U.I. quite often when driving. :lurk

If you truly own such a machine. let't see some photos and spec. sheets to support the work at least. We are all very interested in such a build project.
blu leaf 03-03-2005, 03:50 PM i agree i would love to see some detailed photos of this "super car"
1_XLR 03-03-2005, 03:59 PM If such a car existed....
everyone on this forum would be at his driveway before the sun went down
standby 03-03-2005, 05:18 PM I detect a little jealousy here. One minute you guys are dragging Smucky through the toilet and the next your sucking up to him to try and get information. Why don't we just give the trust baby the benefit of the doubt and give him a chance to grow............after all, he's just 17 and I think everyone's jealous of that alone, not to mention a well full of dollars. Personally I'm glad he has all these bucks, just be careful not to brag to much. People with less really get annoyed.
smckullie 03-04-2005, 07:04 AM Ok, to answer a couple of your questions.
Tranny?
I have no clue what he did to it, all I know is that when you slap it over in the shift gate, the tranny will NOT shift on it's own no matter how much you tach it out, I know that it didn't do that before, because I was trying to get up to speed and it shifted itself when it got well within the redline, I know that it doesn't do that anymore.
Pictures?
Soon to come, I have to get my digital camera back first, I broke the only one that I had the other week cuz I was hiking with my friend, and my hands got really cold, and the camera slipped out of my hand and onto a bunch of rocks, and it wasn't happy because it was in several different pieces.
My XLR, I don't drive it much, it's a performance machine, and the son of a bitch flies, but it eats gas up like nothing else, I may be able to afford this car, but I can't afford to fill the tank up with premium fuel everytime I got out, it adds up, you know?
Another thing, I'm going to let you know this right now, I know enough about cars to bull**** my way out of situations when someone starts talking about them, but other than that, I just know how to get behind the wheel and drive. I learn more and more everyday about these transportation devices, and frankly, I'm amazed that there's so much involved with the way they work. It's extraordinary. But as far as what I have done to my car, I took it to my friend, handed him the keys, and said "Make it so I can blow a Mustang Cobra out of the water," and he did. I don't know what a performance ignition system is or what the difference between a push rod and overhead cam. I have limited knowledge about these machines. As I said before, I just drive.
I respect all of your opinions. I mean, take the situation and look at it.
I'm 17, and I drive a close to 80 thousand dollar car.
Kinda shady, huh? I know, a lot of people don't believe me.
To be honest with you, I've been thinking of getting rid of it, simply because it draw's to much attention to myself. I live in Delaware, we have a city called Wilmington here that is full of nothing but drug dealers and ruthless thugs for the most part. Everytime I drive though Wilmington, and I'm stopped at a red light with the top down, I see someone on the sidewalk reaching into their pants, drawing out something, coming towards my car. At this point, the pedal goes to the floor, regardless of the light, and they get left in the dust.
I don't know, maybe 17 year olds just aren't meant to drive the XLR. There's a lot of baggage that comes with the Cadillac name, baggage that I didn't opt for when I purchased the car. :nopity
smckullie 03-04-2005, 07:10 AM Everybody in this ****ing neighborhood that I live in looks up my car on the internet and figures out that the door handles are touch activated. I constantly find people in my neigborhood trying to steal my car, but apparently, they didn't read the part that you have to be right next to my car in order to use it. Like I said, to much attention. :rant
1_XLR 03-04-2005, 10:18 AM smck,
you gain credibility with me with "I have no clue what he did to it"..."but the son of a bitch flies" :thumbs
Much more believable then 800 HP / 900# TQ! I'm no gear head either but I do know there are certain limitations. Whatever you may have done, we want to learn about it.....that's what we do here. Deleware's too far to drive so we really need some pictures and detailed specs to enlighten us.
17 year olds were NOT meant to drive XLRs....Feel very fortunate if you do!!
I come to a forum like this to exchange information and experience. Building relationships with like-minded people is a happy side affect.
If you mention things you have done or experienced with your car, I am interested and expect you to have enough understanding or detail that I could evaluate that for my own interests. But if you can't talk intelligently about it, then you are just bragging and I have better things to do.
Ask questions and as a group we can likely answer. Provide useful input and it is greatly appreciated. Just visit if you have something to talk about. You want to post track times and back that up with how you got there, and I'm interested. But don't claim you are red-lined at 180 but can run a 7.5 1/4 mile because you would have to be running 180 at the end of that. Ain't gona happen.
BUDSVET 03-04-2005, 12:02 PM My XLR, I don't drive it much, it's a performance machine, and the son of a bitch flies, but it eats gas up like nothing else, I may be able to afford this car, but I can't afford to fill the tank up with premium fuel everytime I got out, it adds up, you know? :reddevil
You don't have a $80,000 car, you have $125,000 car. you for got the 45k to modifiy. I don't have the funds you have, but I don't worry about the gas price and I'm alway's moving down the road. have good day :cheers :glol
Oh by the way, you do live in a gated area , I assume. :leaving
mswaim 03-04-2005, 01:07 PM I'd post a response, but the price of gas comment alone made me laugh so hard I just don't have the energy.................
aviator 03-04-2005, 01:56 PM ...about smckullie being 17!
The rest of it just doesn't sound like it will drill.

smckullie 03-05-2005, 08:49 AM Since you people don't believe me, I'm out of here. I don't care what you all have to say...The car does exist, I actually got a couple of pics of the inside yesterday on the way to work. I'll post them anyway. And for your information, I took my car down to the drag strip an hour from here in maryland and ran my car. It did 1/4 in 8.2 seconds and by the end of the quarter it was going about 120-130. The car is that quick, I'm not kidding you people. I was going to post some under the hood pics, but you people would prolly just think that I photoshopped them. It doesn't look any different from a stock XLR except the turbo kit, which was designed to be really discreet anyway, so if you didn't know what you were looking for, you wouldn't see it. The person that did my car has gotten so many customer service rewards and commondations because he's THAT good at doing these kind of things. He's been doing it a long time. Some pics soon to come.

I for one am glad to see that you are willing to leave rather than share information on your truly one-of-a-kind buildup............I also find it interesting that you know the car turned an 8.2 second quarter mile, however you can't pin the trap speed down to anywhere near a precise point. Good Bye....... :bs
I don't think anyone here is interested in debating whether you have any car or not. I don't really care and you haven't added anything constructive either.
standby 03-05-2005, 12:21 PM OK SMK,
I stuck up for you when the doubting Thomases jumped you, but now even I have two items that don't add up. I ran the drag circuit for many years and when you run your car at any 1/4 mile drag strip they give you a ticket on every run, and I'm sure it doesn't say your miles per hour where between 120 and 130. They nail it to the tenths and your 8.2 would be broken down through the 1/4 mile into 4 segments. BTW, did you only make one run? dah?
The other flaw is you telling us that when you throw the gear shift into the gate, and take off, it shifts automatically even though you in the manual mode. Well that's simply not true and your have proved without a doubt that you are a bold faced liar. FYI, it will wind out a gear and break down if you don't shift.
Take this crap some place else, I think everyone at this point is fed up with your bull.

smckullie 03-06-2005, 02:55 PM :-). Have a nice day.
smckullie 03-06-2005, 03:13 PM Hmmm...You know, it's always been my motto, with all the cars that I have owned, back to my first car, a 92 Chevy Corsica with a little 3.1 in it, that you don't truely know a car until something breaks on it. Well last night, I was racing a Dodge Viper, and after holding it in 2nd gear to long, I irreparably ****ed up the transmission according to the person that I take my car too and now it won't go past 2nd gear. Biggest ****ing piece of **** that I have ever had the displeasure of owning. Now don't get my wrong, it's fast, it's nice; But there's one main complaint that I have with the car: There's a ****ing button for everything. When I open my trunk, I don't want to have to push a ****ing button to close it. Buttons on the top of the seat, buttons on the side of the seat, buttons on the dash board, buttons on the steering wheel, buttons on the left AND right hand sides of the steering wheel on parts of the dash board...TO MANY BUTTONS!!! Some of you might argue that "All cars have buttons,"...That they do, but everything in the XLR is automated. More buttons=More things to break in the long run=More trips back to the dealership. Any car that has to be taken back to the dealship when something ****s up on it is a BAD CAR. May I repeat that...BAD CAR. **** The XLR. Biggest Piece of ****. I'm getting a Trans Am, which, when I'm done with it, will blow any of your cars, including the Vette's that any of you may own, out of the water. But hey, to each their own, you all have nice lives, and to the moderators of this forum, delete this post, ban/delete me, I really don't give a flying ****, don't bother replying to it because it will never be seen by me because I will never be on this site again. Ciao.
Would that be a new Trans Am? :glol:glol
Let's see. 120 miles per hour is 2 miles per minute. Therefore it takes 7.5 seconds to go 1/4 of a mile running 120 the whole way. From the boy who thinks he can accelerate from 0 to 120 in less than a second??
Go brag to the same bunch you failed high-school math with.

Trust fund baby my butt. Somewhere in the world there is a cardboard box condo with your name on it. The closest thing to wheels you have ever owned is a shopping cart and let's face it, you borrowed that...........now move on down to the mission, the dinner bell is ringing.
BUDSVET 03-06-2005, 07:07 PM glad he gone, good riddance to bad rubbish.. :jester :) :) :banghead :cuss :sleep :yawn :cool :bs :bs :bs :nopity
standby 03-06-2005, 09:46 PM Boy, his true colors came out with all the cursing. What the hell did he expect if he in deed let some backyard mechanic screw with his car.................and they don't make Trans Am's anymore, so he has to get a second hand vehicle............must be running out of money.
mswaim 03-06-2005, 11:28 PM It's those da$$ gas prices that killed him...........I guess a trust fund is just not what it used to be. :nopity
aviator 03-09-2005, 10:07 AM Someone please clue me in. Why is Trust Fund Baby a "braggable stat"?
What honor is there in stupidly burning through money that someone else sweated blood to earn? It seems to me that smckullie exhibits the worst kind of pathetic behavior. He doesn't even know what he doesn't know...
Either that, or he is a pathological liar. Root word is pathos in either case.
He doesn't even know what he doesn't know...
I'll add my AMEN to that one!
