Does anyone know how to change the trunk lift button that is located above the license plate. This is the button that opens the trunk from the outside. If someone could provide data on how to do this that would be great!
Thankyou!

Sorry there is no button above the license plate on the outside to open the trunk.
There is a key lock located on the lower left portion of the bumper under a small inspection plate that will open the trunk IF you have the key.
Can you take a picture??

Wow! Amazing how you can learn things on this site about a car you've owned for more than 3 years that you didn't know before. I just went out to the garage to check this out and found that there is indeed a soft button above the license plate that opens the trunk!
Sorry though Bosshog, it will take someone with a shop manual to provide info on replacement.

To remove the rear decklid release switch, you need to stow the roof, raise the decklid and remove the push pins that secure the luxuriously supple, fine Corinthian rat fur trim panel.
These aren't the easiest push pins I've ever had the pleasure of removing. They break awfully easy, so I keep a bag of spares on hand. The PN is 11519949 and your local dealer might have them in stock, since I'm sure it isn't easy for them to pull them out either. Mine came with eight in the bag.
Removing the rat fur panel will expose the backup lamp assembly that houses the switch. The backup lamp assembly is attached with plastic wingnuts. There are electrical connectors to disconnect as well.

All good advice. I would add two more:
Have an assistant help remove the trim panel. While not heavy, it is large and awkward.
Use steps to reach the rear light cluster. When you have undone the various nuts, it will sit in position (deck lid open), and needs to be lifted upwards gently. There is enough spare wire in the fitting for it to be withdrawn and turned over.

My apologies. I too stand corrected.
This HAS TO win the "Things I'll bet you didn't know about the XLR" contest.
I can't wait to try it.

And another: Pressing the Top Control switch once after the chimes go off to automatically raise both windows!
My favorite voice command: "Screen off" during night driving.

Well thanks to Bosshog I tried my newly found trunk button above the tag yesterday for the first time. NICE!! If I had only known earlier.
In fact, my 2004 never had that button used the whole time I owned the car.
The 2008 was used for the first time yesterday.

I never had a clue the switch was there. Now I use it almost every day. I always
found it to be a pain in the butt to get the fob out to open the truck to put my computer in it every morning. Love to know if the are more mysteries to uncover.:cheers

For any of you just learning about the outside trunk button, HOLD the button for a full second before letting go of the button. One day if you just quickly touch it and let go you will have a trunk that will not latch. Thanks to CCC I got my trunk closed after doing that very thing accidentally.
