Hello all...
I would like to introduce myself to you all and I got a question to ask. I have a Cadillac XLR and the car was in the body shop due to vandalism and the service guys are trying to manually close the roof in order to get it sync'd again but they seemed to stripped the bolt that closes the roof and now they can't close the roof manually. They now informed me that they would need a whole new latch assembly but there is none available in the USA. Is it possible to have just the bolt taken off and have a new one installed because I did some research and based on this diagram it seems like it is a separate piece??? Can someone please confirm this for me as this car has been sitting for over 4 weeks now and this is at a Cadillac Dealership. Much Appreciated all!

Welcome to the XLR Forum. I am sorry to learn of your top and parts problems.
I am very concerned that the dealer tried to do what they did with out reading the manual describing how to close the top manually.
This is not a car to force things on with physical strength. A lot of damage can be done to the hydrolic systems and switches.
As far as just replacing the stripped bolt, I would look at the schematic and get the size then see if their own parts department has one.
Also, see if the dealer has checked the retail GM Parts online to see if what they need is in stock.

They said they don't have anything available across the whole North America??? I would like to just know if they can remove the bolt themselves and install a new one instead of waiting for the whole latch piece! Let me know what you find all.

They can have their bodyshop check the junk car circuit too.

The manual actuator (ie: bolt) is an integral part of the header latch assembly. It sounds like they will be replacing the whole thing to make this right.
Stupid question: Does this dealership have a certified XLR tech? This is the first question to ask if you have to take your XLR in for corrective maintenance. Unless they have one with all the requisite training to work on this vehicle, you're likely paying extra for them to learn how to fix it. Or maybe to make a small problem worse through carelessness.

Anyone got a update for me if they seemed to locate a part even if its from a scrapper?

I looked at the diagram and item # 27 (bolt, P/N 88956591) looks like it's going into the windshield header instead of the latch. You didn't reference which item # you needed, so I'm guessing here.
The header latch assy, Item 14 (P/N 88956587) is available from gmpartsdirect for $116. The bolt is also available there too for $1.66.
I've bought parts from them before without a problem, plus they're way cheaper than a dealer's parts counter.

The latch from GMpartsdirect is not available for $116 its $175 you SAVE for $116. I called a number of dealers across USA & Canada and that latch is not available and looking more closely at the diagram it seems that bolt is NOT sold separate...

Here are a couple of more sources if you haven't already tried them:

Schram Auto Parts (used) has at least one retractable top for sale. Maybe they'll part it out. (517) 694-2154 or (248) 673-5700

And try giving Pat a call here:

He bought out a huge inventory of leftover XLR parts from GM after they shut the line down at Bowling Green Assembly.
In the meantime, I'll keep looking. Good luck!
