: New Owner 05 Red.
V10BlackBox 04-30-2011, 06:14 PM So I bought a 05 XLR today, at least I think I did. Agreed to buy it, but cannot pay for it until monday when my bank opens back up after the weekend. So barring catastrophe.....
40K mileage Red with Cream interior with GMPP for another 24 months. It already has had the radiator replaced and a few of the top switches and water pump because of the leak. Top oil looked good, everything aligned up nicely on the body, no scratches on the air dam under the nose and runs well.
Clean pant, no nicks or damage anywhere. New non run flat tires and that's about it.
The front seat rocks a bit but I can pull it out and find out why, it NEEDS an exhaust and a good detail but ready to go. Going out on a limb this will be my only car so it has to fill a lot of roles. Last Cadillac that I had was built in the 1920's so this should be a step up.
XLR I FL 04-30-2011, 07:03 PM Well we are pleased you found a XLR that makes you happy.
If the deal was/is through a dealer, get them to fix the seat and do a good detail on the car.
If it's a private sale, you can try and get the same things done as part of the deal.
If you end up paying the freight, I would still take it to a reputable dealer and let them do their thing with the paint and engine detail. You can then take over and keep it the way you want.
Regards
Jerry
ccclarke 04-30-2011, 07:06 PM Welcome to the forum! Your Crimson Pearl with shale interior sounds nice (only 1017 built in 2005.)
This may help with your seat rocking problem:

Just remember to protect the rocker panels when you remove the seat --it's heavy! There are three connectors under the driver's seat to disconnect before lifting the seat out.

That looks pretty easy. I had to do something similar to my 8 series. I don;t like the seat moving back so I will turn that off as well.
Its a Private Party sale, the dealers around here wanted 5-7K more for the same car and no GMPP. I might have the front 3m'd to protect it on the freeways around here.
I can detail the interior real well the exterior is really nice but a cut and polish will make it perfect by someone who really knows what they are doing.
Also do the XLR's have the super high end leather hides in them like in the older cars.
ccclarke 05-01-2011, 12:04 AM For the exterior, Zaino may be just what you're looking for. No fuss-- strip off the old wax with Dawn, apply Zaino, let dry, wipe off. Add a couple of coats for a long-lasting, glossy, mirror-finish shine. Repeat every six months.

As for the leather, how high-end it is, I really couldn't say. The main thing I know about cows is how to grill them properly. I use some leather cleaner and conditioner from Griot's garage that works well, and Zaino's leather products too. They both work about the same. The interior always has a nice, lingering, leather smell afterwards that is only topped by the smell of a steak on the grill.
The XLR is the easiest car to clean I've owned. Griot's has lots of cool cleaning tools that make it fun too. I especially like their camel hair brushes for cleaning out hard-to-reach areas and gaps where surfaces meet. If your new car has any smells from a previous driver like the valet who wiped out Jerry Seinfeld's car with his apocalyptic B.O; Griot's has an odor eliminator that NASA could use to sterilize planetary spacecraft.

For the many questions you will undoubtedly have, this forum is a great resource.
Your excitement is justified. All of us can remember how fired-up we were just before we picked up our XLRs for the first time. You're in for a real thrill that for many of us, is rekindled every time we enter the garage.
Enjoy!

redone 05-01-2011, 11:18 AM Congratulations ! I also have 2005 crimson pearl with cream interior. I have Corsa exhaust, which i love and 20 inch chrome rims with mitchlin pliot tires and the mesh grill.
HAVE FUN !

I use Zaino on most of my cars. I have some leatherique on order that I was going to use in one of my classics cars to get the leather back a bit. When I pull the seats out to do the rocking fix I think I will let them soak and do the plasitc bag trick I learned on Autopia.
Bank needs to finalize the loan and check the vin I think and then I am good to go. It was a PP deal and they are much more strict on them for some reason. If it does not go through I will just have to find one at a dealer and have it shipped in. I am going to be modern carless in a few days if it does not go though, and my newest car will be from the late 20's then. :lol
I was on the fence about getting a V but for the type of driving that I do I think it is overkill, and I like the red color of this one.
V10BlackBox 05-02-2011, 01:33 PM Looks like the bank is unhappy with a PP purchase and the rates are +3% on it anyway.
They will let me do up to 100K+ on a used dealer purchase so I guess I am back to looking for one that way. There are a few V's for sale in the 40K range in Arizona but no GMPP that I can get quickly. Anybody know of a 07+ V within 300 miles of L.A at a dealer in the 40K range. I have been looking in the usual places eBay and auto trader and the like. Most that I have called on cannot have the GMPP placed on them as they are outside warranty and not certified.
The owner already had another person interested his car so he will not be out any time or money. It was in perfect condition.
carterchapman 05-02-2011, 07:21 PM V10 - what is a pp purchase?
