Had my XLR for about a month or so now :0
No issues at all! Sweet!
So just reading aobut these cars and gathering info and I noticed something interesting aobut my car.
Thinking its pretty rare.
What makes it rare you ask?
2004 XLR
Thunder Grey
Canadian car
Power folding mirrors? lol, thought they all had this option.
Black leather
VIN #00075

Did a search on the vin here:
http://www.compnine.com/vid.php

And apparently it is 1 of 3 vehicles matching my exact options
Was built May 16/2003
(When was the first production XLR built?)

Sooo, who has a rarer one? lol

Very interesting search engine. It showed that only 2 were built like my 2007. It was built on 4-26-2007. Black with cashmere interior. Thanks for sharing. Bob

This website says that there are only 8 like mine. The GM data showed 58 built. The build date was incorrect too. I would be suspect of their information.

You are correct!!

There are significant data integrity issues on the site for XLR's and several other vehicles. So please validate the data you extract before relying on it as fact.

In some cases the total models produced in given years are doubled and tripled. This throws the other stats off proportunately.

Not to rain on your parade but I've been giving your post some thought and offer the following for consideration:

There are some other issues with your information regarding your build date, car color and serial or VIN number that we need to resolve to validate your very low serial number claim.

1st---The initial XLR run consisted of only black cars in batches of 24. This was done to ensure very high quality cars were being made and back certainly does tell on flaws.

My understanding is that the black only XLR's were made for over a month to 6 weeks.

The second color was Xenon Blue and then the rest of the colors followed in a order I am not sure of.

Distribution was limited to the USA initially and then expanded to the other countries.

2nd--The sequencing of the serial or VIN numbers is unclear as it pertains to the USA, Canadian, European and other contenent cars. I do not think VINS were sequential with the Country code randomly added in.

As you know Canadian and European cars as well as the other countries have specific lighting, emission and dash needs. For this reason batches of specific country XLRS were more than likely made at one time.

It's an intreging project to tinker with as we have some time.

100% the stats and VIN # provided are correct.
(2004 XLR
Thunder Grey
Canadian car
Power folding mirrors? lol, thought they all had this option.
Black leather
VIN #00075)

Unfortunately I will not post my full VIN # online so you will have to take my word for it.

It is possible that the website stats (build date, etc...)are wrong though...
(And apparently it is 1 of 3 vehicles matching my exact options
Was built May 16/2003) From website.

Any other way of checking this out?

Kev:

I am trying to get in touch with some of the engineers that I met in Bowling Green to see if they can help us.

It is intriquing though.

I do know from first hand observation that the "semi automatic" assembly line was set up to make sets of cars i/e cookie approach.

It is my assumption that they made for example Canadian cars for awhile then maybe another country.

The assembly line never really ran at maximum and only produced 20 or so cars a day at it's peak.

They actually were good at "just in time processing" and made cars in colors and configurations when they were needed.

Lets mess with this some more when time permits.

Best wishes

Jerry

Has anyone checked with their local servicing dealer on this? I know when mine needed the wood part of the console replaced under warranty the part was S/N specific as are many other parts on these cars. That certainly says that the information exists somewher in the Bowling Green/GM organization and is accessable by Cadillac dealer parts departments.

I read my spec 's/RPO code list again and noticed this:

"WD1 IDENTIFICATION - PILOT VEHICLE"

Missed it before...

So it has to be pretty early then no?
