: Rapidly flashing directional, no fob detected

I own a 2006 XLR.
My right side directional started clicking at a more rapid rate than usual. I assumed it indicated a soon-to-burn-out bulb, and I took the car to the dealership.
I was told the rear taillight assembly needs to be replaced ( over $600 in parts alone ) and it is not covered by my GMPP.
Does anyone know if this is accurate?
I am not inclined to pay that type of money simply because the light flashes too rapidly, as long as it is still flashing.
Also, when I enter my car, the DIC always says "NO FOB DETECTED" until I jiggle the fob, or press the unlock button on it.
The dealership service people say it is interference from other objects in my pocket, but that seems unlikely, as this is a new problem. Could it be a loose battery in the fob? Something else? Any ideas?
Thank you in advance for any help provided.

The FOB issue could be the battery in it. I have found over time if you take the battery out amd wipe it between you fingers and a paper towel to clean it and then re insert it the isssue will go away.

On occasion though I have just bought another battery to be sure that I don't get caught at a inopportune time.

There is merit to the signal getting mixed especially if you have other remotes in the same pocket. As you know just pull the remote out and try again too. Start or open the car.

GMPP/LIGHT ISSUE--I am not sure of the dealers asssessment on this but I would call the GMPP Support number and get an answer.

Please post the response.

I tried removing and cleaning the fob's battery, but I still often get "NO FOB DETECTED" upon entering the vehicle. I suppose I will replace the battery.
I haven't contacted the GMPP advisor yet.

well its either the battery or you have your fob with your cell phone or other electronic device in the same pocket.

I do always have my I-phone with me, although not always in the same pocket as the key fob. I'll try a new battery. Thanks!
I spoke to a GMPP representative this morning, and was told that electrical systems are covered, but bulbs are not. I asked him if a $600 "assembly" counted as a bulb, and his response was "If the malfunction is caused by a bulb within the assmebly, it will not be covered."
I then called my service advisor at the dealership, to tell her what I had had been told by GMPP. She stated simply that when she submitted the "operation number" ( whatever THAT is) to GMPP, the response was "not covered." However, she promised to look into it further.

This might require a close definition of a 'bulb'. 'Bulbs' are usually put in the ground and produce flowers, a 'light bulb' is of course a different thing, but is usually associated with a filament. LEDs are going to take a pretty impressive leap to turn into 'bulbs'.

LEDs are considered to have a considerable lifespan, light bulbs (or more properly 'lamps') with a filament do not share the same life expectation, nor do discharge lamps.

Thus what is and is not covered might come down to the exact definition wording used in your GMPP.

The "NO FOB DETECTED" warning does not appear on the DIC when I leave my I-phone in the house, so I guess it was a case of mixed signals.
The GMPP policy states that bulbs and sealed beams are not covered . LED lights and light assemblies are not mentioned.

Just got an iPhone, but haven't driven the XLR with it yet - enjoying lots of rain in ATL - but I'll let you know how mine does with it.

If you need a new taillight (and I assume you've checked what the lights are actually doing before making that decision), you might want to look on Ebay -- I've seen them there for much less than $600. They are very easy to remove and replace yourself. I had both of mine out while connecting the wiring for the trailer light adapter. Uncover and remove the two bolts, and give the unit a good tug rearward.

Re the fob: mine works better with it in my right pocket and my cell phone in my left. The other way around I occasionally get the "fob not detected" even after a new battery (which *did* make thins better, though).
