I've got my eye on a 2004 XLR with 42,xxx miles at a Near by Chevrolet Dealership just wondering if there's any major issues with these models.

I've owned Corvette's and many Camaro's but am pretty unfamiliar with the XLR and given it's rarity not much information is available on the internet.

Welcome to the XLR Forum.

If you will use the search function and peruse the Technical sections you wiil turn up a TON of information on your XLR.

The thumb nail items are:

1. Get a CarFax report on the car.

2. Have the dealer run a service history on the car so you know first hand what has been addressed.

3. The main issues early on--all of which were covered under the 4 year warranty were

a. Headlight lenses burning
b. Water pump failure
c. Radiator leaking/replacement.
d. Folding top software and sensor issues.
e. Key fob signal issues.

Once these items were resolved, which affected the 2004 and part of the 2005 model years, the cars were/are every bit as reliable as the newer models.

The other items you will want to be happy with are brakes, rotors and tires. These are normal wear replacement items but you don't want ot buy the car and then find out it needs these items in a few months.( A price negotiation item)
