Does anyone know of a certified cadillac mechanic in Baltimore, Maryland 2122o? Can not find anyone to work on this vehicle. Would prefer not to go to a cadillac dealer. Check engine codes are U0001, P0024,P2094 and P2096. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank You!!!:cry

Your best bet is Lindsey in Alexandria. Ask for Luke or Bill. I know it's a little further to go, (I used to live in Annapolis Junction) but you won't have to go back twice for the same issue and you should be able to score a decent loaner.

You don't say what year your XLR is and wehther or not it is still under warranty but either way your best bet in my assessment is a Cadillac dealer.
Chesapeke Cadillac in Towson, MD is a good dealer and most of the mechanics have been there awhile. They will know how to use the diagnostic machine and determine the root cause of your codes. Sometimes the core problem will set or contribute to several codes.
Good Luck.

U0001 = Class 2 data link (this might not be a problem, have you had a blown fuse?)
P0024 = Exhaust camshaft position sensor (bank 2) (will light MIL) (If the lamp stays on through three ignition and the journey cycles, then it is an on-going condition)
P2094 =Exhaust camshaft position actuator control circuit low, bank 2 This also sets the MIL, likewise it clears down after three consecutive ignition and journey cycles and no fault found
P2096 = Post catalyst fuel trim system low limit bank 1, again this sets the MIL and clears it down after three ignition and journey cycles with no fault found.
Given P2096 is on bank 1 and the other two on bank 2, they might not be related (probably are not). According the the w/s manual, 'the most likely cause of this DTC is a deteriorated or contaminated HO2S'. Have you allowed any silicone anywhere near the fuel? Silicone kills O2 sensors very quickly. The most common sources of silicone are using silicone sealants (on gaskets say) (do not do this) and contaminated gas (usually makes the local news if a retailer is responsible). I suggest you try fitting a new HO2S unless you have grounds for another action.
For P0024 and P2094, have a very close look at the wiring for chafing type problems. You need a good mechanic who understands diagnostic procedures. They will need a Tech-2, don't try using some other (lesser) tool for this level of complexity.
How many miles? How long have you had these problems? Did they set together?
PS Bank 1 = right bank, Bank 2 = left bank. 'Right' and 'left' are your left and right as you are sat in the driver's seat facing forwards.

Sorry to ask such a dumb question:
What is the "MIL" - as in "...that will light the MIL...".
The check engine light?

Apologies, GM now call the old Service Engine Soon lamp the Malfunction Indication Lamp, as CC has picked up. I was quoting the service manual. There are no dumb questions, but daft replies, well that is a different matter, I'm very capable of those from time to time!
Also, HO2S = heated oxygen sensor.

I once read the main cause of the check engine light going on is either a failed oxygen sensor or a bad gas cap. When the problem showed up on my instrument panel, I opted for a new gas cap. After a couple hours of driving, voila, out went the light, never to return. My XLR is a 2004 with under 22,000 miles. Good luck, motomarvin
