Hello all,

My 04 XLR intermittently [about once a week] blows the A/C compressor fuse.
Usually occurs when the A/C is left on at engine shut down and the engine is started [max draw on the battery] with the A/C on
The car has a new battery.

The dealer states that the A/C compressor , freon level, sensors, etc. all are OK
The A/C functions properly otherwise- cools , controls function properly, etc.
The dealer is not sure what is causing the current spike to blow the fuse

Anyone have a similar problem on an 04 XLR [ or other 4.6L Cadillac ?]

Any information appreciated.

Looks like we have multiple threads on the same topic. Mod: Is it possible to consolidate both threads under AC Compressor Fuse Intemittently Blows? Mike: Starting a new thread in progess makes it hard for future readers to follow an issue from start to finish. Please post in one only as it evolves.

What I would do for an issue like this would put a fuse 5 amps more then what you got in there since the big power draw seems to be the issue and if everything else checked out OKAY then it doesn't give it a shot to try. Just monitor the situation after you do so.

I would not recommend doing this. Instead there are devices for measuring the current being demanded (that replace the fuse). Have a look to see what the demand is. Putting a slightly bigger fuse in is maybe OK if the current draw that is blowing it is a brief surge, but should it be a more continuous draw at or above peak rated current, then you risk damaging the wiring harness. If you have not had any loss of oil from the compressor and otherwise its service life has been normal, then these are reliable pieces of equipment. I would suspect a problem with the wiring loom (i.e. a short), which needs to be found. There is equipment for locating shorts in wiring (after a simple inspection).
