I am doing due dilligence in anticipation of buying an XLR. I currently own a 2006 Corvette coupe and am thinking about a change. I am interested in a 2008 XLR and being totally anal about such things, I have some questions.
1. How can I come up with the service history on a car I am interested in?
2. Where can I get production info like qty built/year, colors available, options, etc?
3. Best place to get an extended warranty?
4. Do you folks get together for shows, driving outings, etc?
5. Is there a registry?
6. Can you get copies of the original window sticker and build sheet?

I have looked into some of the problem areas, so I know what I'm getting into somewhat. I have loved the body style since the first time I saw one. I am anxious to get to know everyone and hear your comments.

YOUR QUESTIONS:

1. Get the VIN number and the dealer can run it for you or the current owner.

3. GMPP Warranty BUT the original factory warranty must still be in effect in order to get it. It is the ONLY ONE that will cover the top and all of the mechanicals, software and parts. The best place to buy it is from ALLEN BLACK at Black Cadillac in Pennsylvania. He sells on online and to my knowledge no one beats his price (he can also get you the service history).

4. Yes but more regional at this point due to the economy.

5. NO. not at this time.

6. I think they can be purchased at the Corvette Museum. They finally have the official GM XLR and XLR-V blank window sticker documents.


You also want a Carfax on the car--$35-$50.

Hi Jerry!
Thanks for the info. I called Fitchner Chevrolet in Billings , MT about the warranty. They are very price competetive so will compare with Black Caddillac. Dennis was kind enough to run the build sheet and give me the warranty repair history (shown below) and in service date. The mileage is 18.4k so not bad there. Still under factory warranty til 9/2011, so plenty of time to extend it. Warranty repair shows some paint work done on the hood and folding top components, maybe top problems? New top software installed 5/9/08, is this the latest release? What do you guys think? Haven't seen the car yet as it's about 3 hours away, maybe this weekend.
