: diagnostic charges under GMPP

While on vacation our top failed to open completely, prompting a visit to the local Cadillac dealer. While in the shop I asked them to look at the rear end as it was clunking in reverse, figuring that they would change the fluid. Well the top worked when they tried it, the only fault code was a B1327 that they said was related to the old battery that failed and I replaced earlier. They did change the differential lube and the clutch chatter is gone for now. Then came the bill. Two diagnostic charges at 120 dollars each,45 dollars for lube. They said the only way that they could bill GMPP is if they change a part. I called GMPP and after bickering they said they would reimburse us if the top fails again in the next couple of weeks? Kinda vague. The same for the rear end. This car is out of original warranty but under GMPP. Has this been the experience with other members?

This isn't right in my assessment!!

However, it is important that you are not telling them what to fix but what the symptoms are. That way they need to determine via diagnostics what the cause is which will confirm what you already know and also check their very extensive GM/Cadillac database for bullitens pertaining to your issues.

You should pay whatever the deductible is on your GMPP Policy only.

Example: If you go in and ask for a rear end fluid change you will pay for the whole ticket (viewed as normal maintenance).

However, if you just report that the rear end is making noise and they know about the GM Bullitin they will have to change the rear end fluid and add the positraction additive all of which are/should be covered along with the labor less any deductible.

They should have let you know what portion was "on you" before they did the work too.

It's semantics but be tenacious and you will prevail.

They did tell me that I would incur these diagnostic charges if the warranty did not cover them but I figured it would, not knowing about this "failed part change" alleged requirement. I am going to challenge them on this, even if the problems don't come back. More to come...
