Hi all -- I've been lurking for a few days, and this seems like a very useful and respectful forum.

I'm joining because I'm trying to decide whether to buy a 2006-2008 XLR-V. It would be a departure -- I'm used to driving sport sedans and currently own a manual G8 GXP. But I'm jonesing for a retractable hardtop and I really like the looks of the XLR-V both inside and out.

If anyone has driven both cars I'd particularly like insight into how the ride/handling balance compares -- it's my favorite thing about the G8, and although I'm sure the XLR is softer I'd like to know how much. Also curious how responsive or recalcitrant the automatic is.

Thanks!

Welcome tothe XLR Forum.

There are lots of converts to the XLR and the XLR-V. However in the end it is a personal decision.

The biggest items for your consideration if you have read the posts on this subject are:

1. Carfax report
2. GM Service History Report.
3. A GM/Cadillac Warranty preferably the original factory warranty which can be converted to a GMPP warranty. This is the only warranty that covers the top and all of its parts.

All of the inspections these reports provide should be critical components in your decision.

Please let us know when you have your new XLR.

Regards

Jerry

Thanks for the welcome, Jerry.

You can believe any V I buy will be under warranty! I know I'm not qualified to maintain that top mechanism, although I can do a lot of work myself.

Just remember that the 2006's are coming off of the original factory warranty's right now. So you would need to be very careful not to miss the opportunity to buy the GMPP warranty. Once you miss it there is no "do over".

So a 2007, 2008, or 2009 would be a good starting point if the warranty is paramount.
