FWIW: I just got back from the dealer with the "V".

I was experiencing the dreaded check engine message on the DIC which is a result of the gas cap failure (my 2nd) for this car.

The dealer was very concerned about getting the one on the car back (I did the install. Since it was under warranty I give the labor to one of my mechanic friends). I am wondering if another..3rd design is in play.

Here's the stuff off of the bag:

GM# 15832215 with no additional version number Made in Belgium

Regards

Jerry

GM seem to be making a mess of getting a working gas cap. I was supplied with a replacement that was impossible to fit, it had to be at exactly the right rotational angle and pressure to get it to engage correctly. It could then prove nearly as difficult to remove. Discovered there was a note about this being a problem and a third gas cap was supplied. This was a locking one, fitted easily enough but failed the gas cap leak test. So I went back to gas cap #2 and with a sharp knife removed the extra thin plastic guides that extend down the side of the inner bit (to match gas caps #1 and #3) and since then it has been just fine.

Yea I agree something's "up" in the gas cap area.

The first one they gave me was defective as well. The plastic safety cable and the gasket had been cut before the cap was put in the sealed plastic bag. I wish I had examined it closer before I left the dealer. The replacement was perfect.

The important thing is to remember not to try and pull that plastic cable from your existing gas cap out of the gas door. You can easily warp your gas door. The plastic insert portion that goes in the gas door needs to be cut first so it will release.
