Has anybody installed the SIRGM1 in a XLR that didn't come with XM. What I want to know is, will it plug into the XM harness behind the rear console box. Do I need to plug anything into the radio itself. Do I need to splice into a power source and how do you get the ID number to get the service to make it work.

Do you have the factory tuner installed? It's between the seats, behind the storage compartment, that's held in place with (4) T-15 screws. You can see it with the trunk lid raised on the front/center/upper section of the trunk.

The easiest way to verify this is to eyeball the RPO code (U2K) found on the RPO sticker affixed to the bottom of the trunk's right storage compartment cover.

If your car wasn't blessed with one of these babies at the factory, you can try eBay or search online salvage yard listings to try to get the S-band receiver and harness.

The compatibility chart is included on this link: http://www.tss-radio.com/sirius-connect-sirgm1-p-228.html

As for antenna routing, use my unpatented antenna module installaion procedure (http://www.xlrforum.com/showthread.php?t=5783) rather than mount the Sirius wart on the decklid. (Unless you prefer warts.)

To obtain your ID number, tune to XM channel 0.

Hope this helps.

ccclarke,

Read this post http://www.xlrforum.com/showthread.php?t=4773 from Steve. This is what I would like to do. I guess my question is do all non-xm cars have the xm harness installed in them? What would this harness look like?

Why not pull the storage compartment out and take a look? This won't take more than five minutes. You can't miss it --it's the harness with nothing connected to it.

I know you've successfully installed a satellite receiver. I ordered a compatible adapter w/harness and XM tuner from XM RadioStore.
I removed the center storage unit but can't find a harness. The car does not have the satellite accessory code. There is a small black box that says "Bosch" on it with a GM part number that has a blue connector going into it. It's mounted on the bottom side of a steel member toward the driver's side. I don't think that's the harness I need to touch.
Need some guidance and would appreciate your expertise.
Mine is an '05.

UPDATE:
FOUND THE UNTERMINATED HARNESS TUCKED FIRMLY BEHIND THE PASSENGER SIDE ROLL BAR SUPPORT. It was stuffed between roll bar support and a soft gray foam backing piece. PHEW!!!
It's now a car harness-connector to adapter-harness connector issue now...different connector on car from what XM/Terk supplied. No schematic to work with for either unit. Not good.

You probably have to adapt the connectors to the receiver. In my case, the Terk harness didn't match the S-band receiver, but it was an easy job. Details are here: http://www.xlrforum.com/showthread.php?t=5783

Worst-case scenario: if you can't modify or purchase the right connectors is to hard-wire the harness using good quality crimp (or solder ferrule) splices or better yet, install RCA connectors on the terminations of the harness and install matching connectors on the receriver. Two channels, four connections. It will take longer to obtain the parts than wire it up.

Thanks for the reply.
See my post of a few minutes ago. I tried plugging the XM/Terk harness directly into the rear of the radio also when the GM to Terk harness in the rear failed to launch. They provide insructions for direct-to-radio connections. That didn't work either. Their harness doesn't use the same connectors as those found going into the radio, not even close. I've looked at your link but your instructions don't provide power/gnd, data in, data out, R and L audio or R and L gnd connection information form GM to Terk. I'm thinking I'll need to speak with the Terk people.

My instructions are for connecting an aftermarket antenna (Terk) to an installed GM S-Band receiver, eliminating the "wart". It's a two channel (L&R) job.

If you need the pinouts for the GM harness, I can provide them. For your aftermarket receiver, you will probably need a compatible GM adapter. Crutchfield may stock them if the original vendor doesn't.

Yes, please send those pin-outs! That would be helpful if I'm forced to solder wire-to-wire, eliminating the connectors. I found the Terk connector pin-outs. Now if we had the GM harness pin-outs I could solder as a last resort if Terk or Crutch can't help.

I replaced my XM receiver with the Sirus GM 1 unit and everything plugged in with no problems. I installed a Sirrus antenna by placing it on the speaker grill on the right (passenger side) of the dash and routing the wire along the door and under the rear cover thru the storage compartment to the receiver. I did not try to adapt the XM antenna so0 that if I want I can switch back. I had a Life time Sirrus subscribtion on another radio that I switched over so do not have any monthly bills. The only mounting problem I had was the holes do not line up and it is a very hard area to reach so I mounted the Sirrus receiver with 2 sided tape in the spot the XM came out of. It works great!!

In my post I forgot to add that I bought my Sirrus GM 1 unit , new in package, off E Bay for $20.00 including shipping.

Update on my Sirus GM1-- Sometimes when I first start up Sirius will not come on. If I switch to FM then back most of the time it comes right on. A few times the XM display is gone and I can only get it back by turning off the engine and restarting. Even using Sirus the readout always has XM1 or XM2 displayed.

Don,

You might have better luck installing a NC momentary switch to reset the unit, rather than turning the car on and off to do a power-off reset. It would be easy enough to test prior to hard-wiring it into the area around the cigarette lighter.
