Dear All,

I subscribed to this forum in hope to settle a debate in my mind.
I found a killer deal on a 2007 XLR-V that has only 900mile. Yes nine hundreds ONLY.
it was a test drive car in the local dealer here at Saudi Arabia.

I got crazy when I saw the price tag. It is less than 50K :cry

I want to buy it so bad but every one I know are against the idea.

I'll put the pros & cons of the deal from my perspective & I wish that you would share your valuable opinions with me.

Pros:
1- Extremely Cheap Tag price.
2- Extremely low mileage.
3- Very rare & Sharp looking car.
4- Fulfilling a dream of owning a real sports car.
5- Cadi's are luxurious. despite what any one says.
6- Its an American Car. & I don't buy anything else than American cars.

Cons:
1- I'm a father of one son so family ride is impossible.
2- I have a very nice luxury saloon, fairly new 2007 with 15K mileage only. so every one in my family are considering me crazy to buy another "useless" car.
3- Cadis are not really popular in Saudi Arabia & they tend to lose resale value in a Guinness Record way.
4- I read several reviews that really made me hesitate to buy any car with a North-Star engine. OVERHEATING is not something that can be ignored in a country that sees temperatures like 113-140f.
5- the car ceased production globally at 2009 & locally they sopped importing the car since 2007.
6- Local dealer is a Joke. They are deceptive & evasive. so its not a good idea to buy an unreliable car. it would mean headaches with every maintenance cycle.
7- I can buy a brand new Camaro SS with the same price.

Please leave a comment or an opinion if possible.

Reading your post, I note that many of your "pros" are emotional and the "cons" logical. In this case, I recommend the head over the heart.

Without technical support, you're truly on your own. I have yet to own a car that didn't have problems at some point. --But at least I was able to get professional help if I couldn't fix it; it doesn't sound like you have that option. With the car out of production, parts will become harder to obtain as well. The lower $50k buy-in means little if the car has no support. While reasonably reliable, the XLR is not guaranteed failure-proof. You need NASA build quality to operate one so far from help. This is predictable trouble you probably don't need.

If a Camaro makes you and your family happy, everyone wins. What good does it do you to end up with a beautiful XLR sitting in the garage that you can't drive due to a bad part no one can find or install? You'll never hear the end of it at home. (I'm sure our countries are similar in that respect.) I've only been married a month, but Happy Wife, Happy Life seems to work for me. "I told you so!" are not words any of us want to ever hear.

Doing the right thing isn't as easy as it sounds, but if you have doubts, --and I think you do, --this may not be the right thing.

Whatever you decide, good luck with your decision.
