: 2004 vs 2005 XLR
Just joined and spent some time looking for the difference between the 2004 and 2005 XLR. Looking for help here. I am looking to by as soon as I find one. One real big question is I am 6' 4" and weight 235lbs. Is this a problem for this car? I have been looking for one for sale in Sacramento to test drive but have not found any close to home. Feel free to say anything you like.

Welcome to the XLR Forum. There's lots of very experienced and knowledgable people on the forum so you have a tremendous resource.
Well you are in the area of a great resource CC one of our members resides in your area. Also he knows a TON about the XLR and specifically the years you are looking at.
I owned a 2004 XLR and can help you somewhat.
The 2004 was of course the first XLR so the first year run and half of the 2005 year were esentially the same car. I say that because they shared the same "start up problems". Headlights melting (2004-1/2 of the 2005 model year), rerouted brake lines and some top operation issues, some key FOB recognition issues, water pump, radiator, upper radiator hose--etc. ALL of these issues were fixed promptly by the dealers under waranty. So in my assessment, the 2004 and 2005 XLR's were/are every bit as good as the later years if these issues have been addressed by the dealer.
The key thing is to obtain a XLR that has a existing warranty. If the initial factory warranty hasn't quite expired, then the GMPP warranty is the best since it covers the top and all of the electronic and mechanical components.
I hope this helps.

Jerry
Thanks Jerry, hope to here from CC. Still looking for anybody that is over 6' tall and weight about 235lbs on haw they fit in the car.
Thanks

ccclarke 04-14-2010, 11:47 PM Hey Bret,
Being undersized and often severely malnourished, I can't help you a bit as to determining if the XLR is a good fit for you or not. Ultimately, it doesn't matter much what anyone says anyway, you just have to sit in one and see if it works for you. Car seats/interiors are kind of like shoes. If they fit you, you'll pretty much know right away.
Using autotrader.com, I found five XLRs of differing years in the Sacramento area. Size-wise, the interiors/seats will be the same. You might want to visit one of the dealerships listed that have one in stock and take a test drive for yourself.
The biggest difference in the 04's and 05's will be price. Well-priced, nice 04's are ranging from around 25 to 32k ($28,962 average) and 05's from 28-35k ($32,106 average), with milage being the biggest price factor. You'll see private sellers asking $45k, but those cars aren't going anywhere. I can't help but notice that there are a lot less XLRs for sale than there were at this time last year. Happy owners are hanging onto them! -On the flip side, eBay has four times more XLR-related items now than they did two years ago. (Not counting fifty identical wheels listings, brake pads, etc.)
If you do find an XLR that rocks your world, use protection by making sure you get a CARFAX report to ensure you're not inadvertantly letting someone else's bad dream become your worst waking nightmare. If they're out of warranty, you take your chances. These cars can be very expensive for even simple repairs.
Good luck!

Sorry I forgot. I am 6' 3" and about 250lbs and I don't have any issues with the car. Headroom is more than sufficient top up or top down. You can move the seat as far back as it can go and down as far as it can go then you will fit right in.
Go for a few test rides and size the car up for "you".

ccclarke 04-18-2010, 08:57 PM Sorry I couldn't reply but . . . I haven't been near a computer in a few days. :rolleyes
-- I got married yesterday in Vegas, and just returned from the airport. I stole a minute away from my bride to check my email and such, as she updates her friends on the phone before we unpack and crash. It may have been a quickie wedding, (at The Little White Chapel) but the celebrating with family and friends has been non-stop for days. Many innocent brain cells have sacrificed themselves for the cause. A liver transplant seems more than justified. In other words, a good time was had by all.
But enough about my joyous life, I'm a husband, --not a thread jacker!!
Bret, if you still need me to call, let me know and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can.
:cheers CC

Corvette Eddie 04-21-2010, 03:25 PM Bret,
I just bought an 04 XLR two months ago and I can tell you that I am 6' and 230 and have no problems fitting in it. I was a 35 year Corvette owner owning 23 of them and I can tell you I fit in this car better than the Corvettes.
XLR 1 FL is right about the issues on 04/05 cars if they were already fixed under warranty don't be afraid to buy either year car.
