: WOOHOO...2 Weeks to XLR
bamamarc-77 04-08-2010, 09:42 PM Hello from birmingham, alabama.
Just made the purchase out of state....searched for several months....2006 xlr with 16000 miles, black, & certified until 1/13, local cadillac dealer said he'd extend it after that. cost almost the same as an 04 at carmax with 37000 miles and no warranty. Had actually never seen one in person until i tested one at carmax....was considering a 911 ( had a couple of 993's several years ago) but wanted something more unique and i've already had the porsche experience...still have trouble telling the boxsters and 911's apart head on.
Anyway, thought i'd save the money on a transport and get to know her a bit driving the 800 miles home, can't get to it for 2 weeks though. For me, one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen. Have a 2000 honda insight but can't hug trees all the time.
Changed my mind..am having it shipped...am supposed to have it on april 13
XLR I FL 04-09-2010, 11:25 AM Welcome bamaarc-77:
I would strongly recommend you buy the GMPP warranty only available through a Cadillac dealer. It is the only one that covers the top. You have to do it before the origional factory warranty expires.
We have a lot of real knowledgeable and experienced members here.

Jerry
bamamarc-77 04-09-2010, 04:12 PM Thanks,
Just to make sure I'm on the same page, sorry if this is redundant. Original in-service date was 1/10/07......certified by a cadillac dealer on 12/12/07....so are you recommending I buy the gmpp before 1/10/11 or before 1/10/13 (6 years after the in-service date since it's certified)?
XLR I FL 04-09-2010, 07:09 PM My understanding is that you need to buy it before the expiration of the origional warranty.
There are several sources but one dealer that many members here have gotten good buying service and pricing from is Black Cadillac. Ask for Allen Black. He will also confirm the latest time frame you have to buy it. allen@gmoutlet.com 877-472-9550 x302
The ultimite decision is yours of course but at least Mr. Black will provide a very good price comparision for you to assess.

bamamarc-77 04-09-2010, 11:15 PM thanks
bamamarc-77 04-12-2010, 12:57 PM spoke with allen this morning....very informative and helpful, will be buying some more coverage in september!
thanks again for the tip
JayInAtlanta 04-14-2010, 02:09 AM Welcome! The deals on these seem to be great at the moment, and they are so stunning, as you mentioned. And they provide a great experience (especially when covered by an excellent warranty).
I know you're going to be thrilled - April 13th you say, right? Maybe you're thrilled already! :)
bamamarc-77 04-14-2010, 02:13 PM Got it yesterday afternoon, sunny and 80 degrees outside...what a car. Just cruised the 2 lane roads yesterday, going on the expressway this evening...speed limit is 70 here. Completely different experience than a porsche..at least the 993's. I've been mostly driving a 2000 honda insight for the past 2 years so let's say the contrast is stark. Called onstar emergency by mistake. Will have to figure that thing out soon.
XLR I FL 04-14-2010, 03:48 PM You will also need to get a Valentine 1
rjbrackin 04-15-2010, 05:39 PM Hey bamamarc, hope you have a ROLL TIDE sticker to go on the XLR!!
Sorry it took you so long to find one. I bought one of two black 06's Joe V. Clayton Chev up in Arab, AL had a year ago. He had the other one listed for several months before it sold, and then he had a third black one for sale early this year.
bamamarc-77 04-16-2010, 09:58 AM thanks, it did take awhile but all the stars had to align properly. Was tough to find an '06 with low mileage and alot of time left on the warranty for 30 grand, also wanted black or crimson (obviously). Lynn Layton in Decatur had (or has) one recently and wanted 42,000 dollars for a black one with more miles. Just happy to finally have it. Still have never seen another in birmingham. Got to punch it on the freeway last night, really, really fast.
XLR I FL 04-16-2010, 12:34 PM Congratulations!!! :cheers :cheers
Don't forget the Valentine V1
