I would imagine that anything that would fit in a C6 vette would fit in an XLR - do you know if it will fit in a vette?

Why???? Are you board?? It would be less expensive if you tweaked the Northstar motor.

The vett has the 7L ls motor which is a 427 small block the LSX454 is a small block just more CI so I would think it would fit. I`m just looking for options. My car runs fine I want more power and the V is at least $20000 more to buy so I thought there may be somthing else I can do.

Even if it fit, I would think the electronics and communications systems would be a nightmare to try and figure out. All the integrated modules seem to make this car uncustomizable. Heck, people are having nightmares just trying to install a new radio because cruise control and other communications are routed through the stock unit. i'm no master mechanic, but I would hope some of the experts here could weigh in before you start thattype of investment. Good luck.

It would probably be cheaper to spend 20k on the V. For comparison purposes,

An LS7 lists for 19,378 ($14,107 discounted). And that's with no sensors, flywheel and clutch, fuel rails, throttle body, exhaust manifolds, water pump and pulley, coil packs, injector wiring and harness, air filter box, ECM . . . A few hundred for shipping. Easily $5k there.

Add a couple of thousand bucks for labor to pull the old engine, install the new one, then throw in another $10k to bribe a laid-off GM employee for proprietary system code, $10k more for a programmer to adapt and custom-program the XLR firmware so the ECM talks to the TCM, BCM. and cruise control system , so the brakes don't lock up and throw you into a ditch the first time it detects an obstacle. --

That's right, there are even liability issues to consider when making system firmware changes.

Remember the vaporware HUD interface to the Valentine 1, demo'd once on a Vette in a parking lot that created a buzz last year? Or the guy who recently wanted to use an XLR's powertrain to build a hot rod? Getting onto the system buses is a big deal, and that's where most XLR mods abruptly end.

As mentioned, even adding a different sound system is a challenge. I've heard of one aftermarket stereo installation that worked properly. A couple of stereo shops were mounting the old system in the trunk to keep the system from throwing codes and activating the theftlock circuit!

Even the new remote start that's been shown uses a seperate XLR remote wired in to power up and down to make the thing work. Not the most elegant way to do it, but for for now, the only one, since nobody's cracked the bus interface issue.

The more you learn about this car, the more you realize how much there is to learn. The XLR is a low-production vehicle, so there isn't a lot of money-making potential out there to create game-changing mods.

Keep dreaming or start saving!

I agree with CC!!

Of course then you also have to consider what transmission you are going to run and how to custom fit the drive shaft to the new rear end you will need.....

That "V" is looking better and better. why not call D3 Performance and do one of their packages??

Well I thought It would be easyer to do the swap but I guess not. I wish there was a cheaper way to add some HP

Once again, figure out how much performace will float your personal boat and then go to the D3 Cadillac website. There are several packages available.

deadringer may share his experiences and results with D3 and the associated cost.

I've contacted Squires Turbo Systems about the 4.6 XLR. They make a kit for the vettes, but none for the XLR YET !
