If all goes well I'll pick up my '06 XLR-V on Saturday. Have been a fan of these cars since 2004. I'm about to retire (2 weeks) from Porsche Cars NA where I have been the Driving Programs Manager for the past several years. My introduction to XLRs was at our 2005 Carrera launch event at which we used XLRs as competitive vehicles at Homestead and california speedway. I won't bore you with the details of the mechanical challenges we faced with the '04s but I made a mental note that if GM addressed the problems and cranked up the HP they would be one hell of a ride. So looks like I'm in...... I currently own a 64 Factory Five Cobra replica, a 2002 HD V-rod with a 50 shot n20 set up and an 84 Chev El Camino. The "V" should round out the stable nicely.

Welcome to the XLR Forum!! We all hope that you enjoy the forum and feel free to make suggestions regarding content and format.
I agree you do have a very nice stable of toys. Ithink we may need to add a section for showing off the members toy stables.
I have a 2008 XLR-V purchased about a year ago after having owned a Xenon blue 2004 XLR. Obviously I agree with your assessment that these are truly unique and timeless cars that we can enjoy for many, many years to come.
Please be sure to get a Service history from the dealer for the car you are considering and a CarFax report. It is also good to know what the tires and brake condition is. This is a good bargining point if the car meets your expectations otherwise. The value is about $2k since you may need rotors and pads.
There is also lots of good information on member tire experience here as well. I have had good experiences with my local Discount Tire company and have used the original factory spec tires with no issues. However I am sure you have your own ideas in this area.
I also own a few Harleys. I just sold a 1320 hp V-Rod with 145 RWHP and currently own a unfired 2006 VRXSE Destroyer and a 2010 FLHXSE CVO Street Glide all of which are enjoyable.
There are other members who also have some nice toys. I am sure we will hear from them soon.
So hurry up and retire so you can enjoy more time with your toys.
Best Wishes
Jerry

Thanks Jerry,
Couldn't agree more with the check out procedures you mention. I do have a very close friend and colleauge who is a Cadillac service rep on the west coast and he has been most helpful in researching likely candidates. Intrestingly enough the GMVIS info was quite a bit behind the service history as shown on CARFAX. The current owner told me he had a battery replaced (Imagine that!) about a month ago along with a service at the local dealer. It did not show on GMVIS but was there on the CARFAX. This was good news but caution should be exercised in relying solely on GMVIS as it could have been something more serious than a battery.
BTW do you know if there is an Optima with the correct size and post config?

OPTIMA--I honestly don't but it should be fairly easy to find out. Why not do a Google on Optima and then look for the car and see what they have.
There was a recent new member who went though a ton of battery problems and finally ended up with the 7 year Delco that is used in the 2008 and 2008 cars.
I think we found out that this battery has 650 cold cranking amps. so if the utima is bigger than that and not larger in size with the terminals onin the correc locations you're good to go. Amazingly this battery is not hard to access.
