: Radio Tone NOT Holding Memory

I recently purchased a '006 XLR and on the FM1 set of stations, it would NOT hold the tone (bass, mid & treble) settings in memory as it is supposed to. It would on FM2, but on FM2 it would NOT hold the DSP settings.

Being a Certified Car from Cadillac, I put it into the dealer under warranty - they completely replaced the radio having not being able to figure out what was wrong; which was quite nice of them. However, now, neither FM1 or 2 will hold any of the settings; albeit at more palatable levels than the original.

Does anyone know the fix? I figured you other owners out there know more than the average dealer ever will about this rare piece if history.

I apologize, but, this is hysterical. I thought I was NUTS. This same issue drove me nuts since '06 (I'm on my second XLR). Admittedly, I'm not that bright, but I managed to figure this out a few weeks ago. You need to set EACH preset with the desired tone or DSP setting. This means, you need to reset everything! For example, to set FM1, preset 1, select desired station, set bass, mid, treble, DSP mode. Now press and hold preset 1. It will now hold the tone settings for ONLY that station. You have to repeat for all FM1, FM2, XM, etc.:cool

Absolutely amazing!!!

I doubt that I would have ever figured that out.

It doesn't seem to be logical. I would have continued to try and set it for the whole system.

Thanks!!

I went through the same process of customized channel setting and re-setting until my right index finger's fingerprint was gone.

Hours later, the sixth beer held the key. (I had switched index fingers at this point too.) By holding the Preset button longer than usual, (beer will change one's perception of time if consumed liberally) the selection "took" and I celebrated with yet another beer. Maybe more.

Afterwards, I wrote some notes in my owner's Entertainment Systems manual, that when sober, looked like Mayan hieroglyphics and proved impossible to deciper. Luckily, enough undamaged brain cells in my short-term memory remained to re-write a proper operating sequence.

This is up there (almost) with trying to get the cabin lights to extinguish after pressing the little "sunrise" looking iconified button on the Instrument Panel.

Patience is indeed a virtue. For everything else, there's beer!

Thanks STARBLACK225, I also thought I was losing my mind. I'd given up on trying to figure it out. Oplefty

Wow, who'd of figured that. Those XLR designers went out of their way to get that one implemented. Quirky doesn't begin to describe how these were put together, but ya gotta love em...:rolleyes

Thanks StarBlack225! I haven't had this problem with my 06 Star Black (165/250) XLR but I had the same problem with my 04 Chevy Impala and your instructions cured IT!!!
I guess this is a general GM thing!

Go read my lastest post in "More h/p"

The amazing part of this is that the dealer replaced the radio! You would think they would at least be trained on proper operations of the vehicle.

Not really that amazing just a fact of life at service departments everywhere. When any dealer for any brand CNDs (can not duplicate) any customer concern (complaint) they (the tech) are paid only a pittance if anything at all. Basically no defect... no repair, therefore no pay. When they replace part(s) (a radio in this case) they are paid the mark up on the part(s) and the labor time specified by the manufacturer and in most cases the "diagnostic" time as well. ....In the current economic environment all dealers are trying to squeeze every dollar they can out of every RO they write. Do the math......

Actually, if you think about it, the radio is allowing you to fine-tune each station rather than the settings cover all stations whether it's rock 'n roll, country, talk, classical, etc.

The process could probably be cleaned up a bit, but I think the designer's were thinking.

PROBLEM SOLVED OPERATOR ERROR!!! Seems the radio preset button must be held after entering settings NOT the seat/mirror memory button.

I've spent several hours trying to program sound (hi,mid & bass) on each station on FM 1 and 2 with no sucess... The "new" settings will not hold no matter how long I hold the #1 memory button. The DSP settings will not hold either. Can you post the operating sequence you mention above as I'm out of ideas and variations for button pushing sequences.
Thanks
