Hi All,

Not sure where to go with this, but I'll try here first. The lease on my 2008 Alpine White V is ending shortly. I'd like to buy the car. The buy out is about 75K. Seems high. Is there any way I can get it cheaper? Who do I negotiate with? The dealer says, it is what it is. GMAC says the same. Ideas?

First, you broke the first and most important rule of negotiations - you let them know you wanted the car!

Now you need to do your homework and find out what a fair market price is for the car (a quick check on AutoTrader.com looks like $55 - 65k asking price, so they can be had for less. It would also be good to check you your bank to see what their lending limit is on the car).

Now, you need to be willing to walk away from the deal if necessary - but I doubt that will happen in this market. Decide what you want to pay for the car and offer about $5k less, but stand firm on your final price. You need to determine the price you are willing to pay based on the market price and your personal knowledge of the car.

Good luck!:cheers

$75k residual? wow - you got a great deal on your lease! what was the interest rate?

You may be better off buying a different XLR than trying to negotiate on your car - there are so many XLRs on the market now its getting a bit ridiculous - you'll certainly get a great deal on another car.

what is the mileage?
how many months are remaining?

2 year lease, 2 months left. Not a dime down, not even taxes. 20K miles currently. Not a scratch on it.

Maybe. But what a barganing chip!!!! I wold "Watch this one to see how it comes out sinceitis so close to yours.

Starting at $56k and Buy It Now for $63 we'll see.......

BTW: They do get more interested the closer you get to the end of your lease.

They really don't want the car back if they can get close to what they need for it. The GM Auction block is full of cars these days.

Do you have lease protection on the car???

They will be sticklers for dings, worn tires. interior scratches, dings--etc. soget ready.

They tried to lay a heavy bill on me for my wife's CTS Sport when I traded it in. But they forgot I had the protection. So "No More $$$$ for GM" Ha, Ha

I hope you end up with it.

Great advise all around ! SHOOT LOW, they don't 'want or need' another car joining the others in the back lot. Don't act on your desires and don't re-act to their threats. YOU have the upper hand. IF they 'let you walk' , let them know that you will never be back again (even for that car an hour later). March of 2009 I bought my (demo) 2008 with less than 8K miles. I told myself that "I could take it or leave it", and my additude put the 'ball in the dealer's court'. I purchased at 41% off of MSRP, and they would not budge on the GMPP. Took the car home and the very next AM, got on line and purchased the MAXIMUM GMPP WARRANTY from 'Black Cad and Pontiac' over the net. I say that YOU SIR are in control of this deal, and they will be bluffing at any reasonable counter offer you DEMAND. Good luck, and hold steady ! "Anyone can whip a salesman!" (Jim Varney)

Got it for 62K. Not a great bargain, but fair.

Cngratulations!!!!

I am hoping they "Cadillac Certified" it so everything is up to date including the software.

I don't know where the pricing on these XLR-V's is going to go. Recently 1 White 2009 "V" and a Black one went through Barrett-Jackson for $105K and $110K and they were used. So who knows....

Now go get your GMPP Warranty ASAP!!!

AZGeo is correct. Allan Black at Black Cadillac is the person to contact and can "hook you up" in a few minutes AT A GREAT PRICE!!!

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO GET THE GMPP WARRANTY SINCE IT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT COVERS THE TOP AND ALL OF ITS MECHANISMS!!!!!

Best Wishes

Jerry

Status Update. I found out the dealer price was 59K, so I went to a friend at a local GMC dealer and purchased the car, in someone else's name for 61K. My long time friends at my Caddy dealer are gone, and the their replacements were a little too shady for me. Having said that, I looked up the Kelley Blue Book and it says full retail is about 52K. Where can you get an 08 V-Series for 52K? Also, I'm assuming that's the value Geico uses if the car gets totaled. What gives?

I wish I could have exchanged messages with you before you did that. I would have put you in touch with a friend who could have gotten you the best price available.

Remember there are auction prices, wholesale prices, trade prices and retail prices.

Of course condition and the weather has a lot to do with it.
