We bought a 2005 XLR about 6 months ago with 11,800 miles and found an oil drip in the garage. We took it to the chevy dealer and they told us it was an oil pan gasket.
They replaced the gasket and we still have oil drops showing up on the garage floor. We took it back and the said they put some dye in the engine and checked it with a black light and could not find any leaks after running it for about 5 hours. You can also smell oil that is getting hot or burning in the passanger cab. I keep a check on the oil and it is not going down at a fast rate. Also dose anyone know how to get the cover off the to of the engine.

To remove the cover of the engine you remove the oil filler cap and then it just lifts off. It basically gets snaps into place and off with very little effort, as long as the filler cap is removed.

Just in case that isn't clear, it clips or presses down at the front and has a hinge mechanism at the rear. Once you have lifted (or "popped up") the front it will pull forwards out of the hinge mechanism. You might need to raise the oil dipstick about 3" or it catches on the cover. Well, mine does.

Putting it back is a matter of getting the hinges at the back lined up, avoiding the dipstick and then pressing down firmly (but not hard) at the front.

While the cover is off, replace the oil filler cap to keep dirt out.
