The volume goes up and down as we drive the car. I was told it might have a
speed sensitive volume function. Does it? How do I turn it off?

Thanks.

Yes the radio does have a feature to automatically adjust the volume based on the speed of the car. The feature is turned on and off on one of the sound system menus, but I can't remember where offhand. I'll check tonight when I get to my car if no one responds before then.

The infotainment system's volume can be controlled via a Noise Compensation Microphone, located behind the knee bolster under the steering wheel. The Noise Compensation feature can be disabled from the head unit using the embedded firmware. The system volume isn't affected by the vehicle speed per se, but by the amount of ambient noise in the cabin, --though more cabin noise is usually present at higher speeds. It works equally well with the top down at a stoplight in a high noise environment.

If the volume is going up and down intermittently, the microphone can be disconnected to see if it's the cause of the problem. Remove the knee bolster, and disconnect the connector for the microphone. It can also be checked using a Tech 2 by your dealer for proper operation.

Hi!
Thanks for the answers.

CCClarke could you please be a little more specific about the following:

"can be disabled from the head unit using the embedded firmware"

Thanks,

Catherine

Sure Catherine,

There's a screen on your head unit that has a selection for the enabling or disabling the Noise Compensation feature. There's more detailed info about this feature in the Customer Convenience/Personalization Guide that's packaged with your owner's manual.

Hope this helps,

I have an 05 XLR and just checked my owners manual and verified in my car. First turn on your radio and then press the small button just above the on/off knob that is marked with a small music symbol and screen picture. This will bring up a menu of three settings. The last one is AVC (Automatic Volume Control) and you can turn it on or off right here by selecting the appropriate button. When AVC is off the radio volume stays steady, if on it adjusts to the noise in the cabin. The bottom of this screen is also where you set your clock with the clock symbol or adjust the screen brightness. Hope this helps.
