I have a 2005 xlr and the drivers side heat climate control only blows cold air no matter what the setting is ,,,, the pass side is working fine ,,,,,, since its getting cold in Staten Island NY i need some help.... my local garage says he needs to take apart my dashboard ,,,, need less to say trying to avoid that ,,,,,,,

I wouldn't let anyone other than a Cadillac dealer with a XLR Certified technician go inot my dash. The electronics on this car are far too complex for some well intending technician to go on a discovery on how to fix the issue.

It may be something simple like a loose or disconneced piece of duct work..... but then...

With a Tech 2 scan tool installed, your HVAC system fault can probably be diagnosed before a screw is ever loosened. It not only checks the HVAC control head, but the thermal sensors on each side for proper operation among other things. The system uses inlet and outlet sensors in a feedback loop circuit to compare the ordered temperature (from the HVAC control head) to the actual temperature (from cabin sensors on each side) and adjusts heating and cooling outputs accordingly.

With shop labor being pretty close for independents and dealerships alike, you may even save money by using a dealership's tech who can troubleshoot and repair the fault faster, using the proper tools, training and best of all --experience. You might not want your car to be used as a training aid by someone who's never worked on an XLR, if this is the case.

As previously stated, other than tires, I wouldn't let a non-certified XLR tech near my vehicle, especially where accessing the center console is concerned. For starters, the metal trim plates are very easy to dent if someone doesn't know how to remove them properly.

However you have it fixed, please let us know what the cause was.
