I have an 04 with the version 3 nav disk. It works great. I got the newest version 8 disks from an 06 v to replace the version 3 disk. They wont work. They work fine in the 06 v but when I put them in mine all it does is say please insert nav disk. I was under the understanding they work in all the XLR's. Any thought whats going on? When I put the version 3 back in it works fine.

Call the NAV disk center and ask if there is an issue with the two systems. Like you I always thought that they worked in all XLRs.

They said there are different disk's for different years. That makes sense, since the o4 and 05 will use the 1791 code and the newer cars wont.

It seems to me that there were several members who were always recieving the latest release of the NAV disk and they all worked...for them.
There may be a cut line as you suggested though.
04-05's can use the 04 and 05 releases
06-09 Can use their current one up to and including the 09 version.
If I recall correctly, 04 and 05 new car owners got 1 release for free.
06 thru 08 owners could receive 3 free upgrades until it was suddenly recended.
09 Its back to the one you got with the car.

any idea what the new part number for an updated disc is. I still have the original 06 disc and would like to upgrade.

GM lists the following disk P/N as compatible with the 2006 XLR:
25979939
(The other disk is for the Mid East.)
