The cpo warranty on my 04 will be expiring in a few months. I'd like to continue some sort of coverage for at least a couple more years, and assume it would be better to do so before the current warranty expires. What plans should I be looking at?

The subject of warranties has been pretty much beat to death on this forum; please read through the related posts for your answer. If you have a specific question regarding a particular warranty, someone will surely chime in.

CC is right there is a TON of information on the site abut warranties.
The one that seems to make the most sense is the GMPP warranty. It covers the top mechanism while theothers don't...
You need to renew right away. If you don't you will be in the preverbial soup and ineligible for a GM Warranty.

It appears that consensus is to buy the GMPP. But I can't.
If you read my original post again, you will see that I have a 2004, nearing the end of the certified pre-owned warranty. Unless I've missed some exception somewhere, I am not eligible for the GMPP since the vehicle is no longer covered under the *original* 4-year warranty.
I'm probably among the first round of those who bought a cpo 2004 and now face the issue of what coverage is available once it expires. Perhaps I'm just not very good at searching, but I haven't been able to find answers to these questions:
Are there any gm deals which essentially extend a cpo warranty?
Are there any 3rd-party service contract places known to cover the top mechanism?

Then buy an '06 Cadillac Certified V and get yourself some more time!
In all seriousness, I'll be looking into the same issue soon enough, so I'm always eager to hear about any really solid warranties to extend CPO.

I am suggesting that you contact Allen Black at Black Cadillac and discuss your issue with him. He sells the GMP and GMPP warranties as well as Cadillacs. He is very honest and knowledgeable about the nuances of each warranty AND his Internet prices are very good.
PLEASE let us know how this comes out.

YES I have done business with him like many here on this site and am very pleased with his service and support!!

No you are past all windows of opportunity for any good plan. The plans that are out there are not worth the paper they are printed on.
So your options are:
a. Junk new plan
b. No coverage
c. Time to move on to another vehicle
<<<<
Hmmm. Anyone out there have real-life *good* experience with any 3rd party plans?

I told you he was honest!! He doesn't beat around the bush and will tell you like it is. Good or Bad.
So why don't you consider upgrading??? the "dif" between your car and a newer one can be good. Allen can help with that as well....if you choose.

Well, I don't prefer to spend what it costs to change cars all that often, so I'll probably just roll the dice. Maybe not having health insurance until medicare kicks in will make the problem academic...
Seriously, if I did change cars, I doubt that it would be to another XLR. A new lexus IS convertible is in the same price range as a cpo xlr, and a cpo lexus SC would have a far better warranty. Lexus cpo warranty is 3 years from date of cpo purchase, and for just over $2k you can add another 3 years of full cpo coverage. We recently bought a 2007 RX400h, and now have a cpo warranty until mid-2015, unless we somehow manage to rack up 100k miles sooner.
