I'm fairly certain this has been covered in another thread, but what you are experiencing appears to be the beginning stages of a position sensor (potentiometer) failure. There is a service bulletin to address that concern and your local XLR tech should be able to determine which one is at fault.

I'm having the same problem with my 2004 XLR. I'm located in Germany right now, so there aren't many XLR techs available, similar to Kuwait, I guess. While looking for other threads on this topic, I'm considering disconnecting my battery, then reconnecting to see if anything electrical will "reboot" or "resequence".
Any cautions from the crowd or consequences if I try the battery trick?

If you have a position sensor out of position or failing, electrically "re-setting" the system won't do any good. The top position sensors values need to be evaluated with a Tech 2 -available at the dealer.
Disconnecting the battery will require you to re-calibrate the window indexing feature afterwards.

Thanks, CC. I've had pretty good luck over the years correcting most XLR problems by rebooting (engine restart or top resequence), but I think you're right that I'm beginning to have some position sensor problems. I found a Ferrari/Maserati/Cadillac dealer here that has the diagnostic equipment to evaluate them.

Good luck with your top issue! Do make sure if any top sensors are replaced that they are bonded in place as per the GM procedure. GM could have done a better job (engineering-wise) if they had included two pins on the sensor bodies to prevent the sensors from loosening up and moving due to normal wear and tear. The procedure has the tech bond them in place to prevent movement after installation.
Just for curiosity's sake, what's GM support like in Germany? Do you feel comfortable when you take your vehicle in for a problem? I'm interested in hearing your opinions/experiences! How is the XLR perceived in Europe, especially with all of the other wonderful cars on the roads there.

yup, my 05 is starting to do the same thing, 2 pushes of the button to do the top. i agree that it is the sensor, i have had to have the sensors adjusted one other time. interesting about the glueing in place ill have to check mine out. i havent gone to the dealer about this problem yet as i can still deal with it. i just wont mess with the top once i leave the garage, dont want to be stranded witht the top stuck, ha ha!
