New xlr v owner. It appears you have a tight nit group. I have been reading your info and it is very interesting. You have given me a lot of tips. I do have one question . Has anyone had to put there top down manually. I would like to know any tricks you may know in case I ever have a no power problem with the top down. I also cannot find the wrench they are talking about. Is it something special If anyone can give any info I would appreciate it.

Welcome to the XLR Forum!!
The members here are more than willing to help you out with anything you can't find on the site. So please ask if you need something.
Manual Top Operation-I am hoping the owners manual and the wrench are in the car.
The wrench may be in the glove box in a somewhat flat pastic case or if you raise the trunk there is a small storage area located on the right side of the trunk. Look in there as well.
Also there is a lot of information on the top posted in the Technical Section in the Top category.
If you don't have the wrench I would suggest ordering one from your local dealer.
Don't worry we can walk you through the emergency top operation procedure if need be.

I've looked in both places for the wrench. Is it something special. The way I read the owners manual you only need it to lock the top by the windshield. It was a little confusing in the owners manual is why I ask if anyone has done before. The top works perfect but I do have a mark showing up above the driver{outside}. It looks as though it is rubbing a little when it is stored in the trunk.
Thanks

It's a 2006. Black on Black. The mileage when I bought it was15,101. I've made one trip from Akron Oh to Somerset Pa. Top down and I was impressed. I hope I can get used to this sight. Everytime I get on it tells me I have to do something else to continue. I hope as I get more comfortable with it this will laps. If the picture of the red one is yours. I've got to say that is beautiful. That was the color of the first V I had seen and I fell in love with the style. Thank god for the headsup to help hold down the tickets!!!!!!!!
Have a nice day

The mark you are refer to sounuds like a clearance problem with 2 bolts on either side of the trunk lid. If you look with the top down and the trunk open you will be able to see the bolts I am referring to. There is a thread elsewhere on this forum about this and at least one member cut the ends of the bolts off to prevent damage. NOTE: several members have had to have their tops repainted because of this problem, so a little preventive maintainance would be order.

Nice mileage for an '06 when you bought it! And I LOVE the black/black. Yes, the Infrared in the picture is mine. I originally wanted black/black or blue, but I definitely like this color a lot more than a typical red. It looks gorgeous when waxed and in the sun.

Dont let the top scare you. When I bought mine It stuck quite a few times. I got real good at putting it up manually. I didnt have a tool either. I just keep a t15 toex wrench and an 8mm allen wrench in the car for the top. It is a bit intimidating at first but after a few times I could do it in less than a minute. The good news is They finally got it fixed and it has gone up and down 2 times a day since summer. You'll love the car.:cheers

Read my postings in the top area when you get a chance.
the real issue is that the top needs to be realigned so that it actually "catches" in the rear area and isn't bouncing up and down when you drive. The "Top Not Secure" message doesn't display in many cases on the DIC (Drivers Information Center).
Cadillac will repaint the top IF the car is under the original Warranty OR is Cadillac Certified. IF NOT you are on your own for the most part.
The last bulletin they issued actually applies to all XLR and XLR-V's form 2004 through 2009. It says it only applies through 2007.
So a small consolation is that at least you won't need to make your video.

#PIC4547: XLR Roof Does Not Latch At Rear Corners In Stowed Position - keywords latch loose mid open potentiometer retract stow trunk - (Jun 13, 2007)
Subject: XLR Roof Does Not Latch At Rear Corners In Stowed Position
Models: 2004-2007 Cadillac XLR and V-Series (Should be through 2009 models)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some customers may comment of a mark in the paint on the roof panel. This mark may be on the drivers or passengers side of the roof and typically the size of a pencil eraser. Further inspection of the retractable roof may indicate when the roof is stowed, the rear corners of the roof are not secured in trunk area. This may be the result of a misadjusted roof panel.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Lower roof into trunk as far as it will go. Stop when trunk starts to close. Check to see if the rear roof latches engaged the lower support.
Scribe the current position of the rear roof panel pivot bracket bolts. (See Attached Picture). These marks may be needed if the panel moves more than needed. The position should only change about .5 mm (one half mm).
Loosen both of the rear roof pivot bracket to rear roof panel fasteners one turn (both driver and passenger sides). These only need to be loose enough to allow the bracket to slide under the bolt shoulder. Do not allow the shims (if present) to become mis-positioned.
Manually lower the panel so the rear latches engage and latch. Lightly bump/thump the rear corners of the roof panel above the latches using your open palm.
Re-tighten the previously loosened fasteners to 18 Nm or 13 lb ft.
Cycle the roof and ensure that it latches properly in both the up position and down position with out assistance. If it does not latch in the up position the strikers can be adjusted.
(1) Front Of Vehicle
(2) Loosen One Turn
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". The tool that came with the car looks like this. It is a Torx 15 on one side and an 8MM allen on the other. Basically, Monepit's tools all in one.

The unfortunate thing is that it's no longer available from the dealer...
