After two long months, I finally have my new tires and wheels mounted on my 06 XLR-V.

Forgeline SP3P 20" 3-piece wheels... hidden hardware, chrome, with
break-away stems, and internal TPMS brackets.

http://www.forgeline.com/products/performance-series-step-lip/19inch-and-20inch-performance-series/sp3s.html

They were spec'ed and ordered by D3 for me while keeping in mind that I may do a 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brake upgrade. So the offsets and such were set to make room for them in the future.

255/35/20 front and 285/30/20 rear Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires.

http://www.michelinman.com/tires/ultra-high-performance-sport/pilot-sport-ps2/ (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Pilot+Sport+PS2)

I wanted the widest possible tire in the rear since I've been having issues keeping the tires from spinning when driving aggressively. the 285's fit just fine (and there maybe room for a little more :D)

SureValve break-away stems:

I was initially concerned that the ride would be harsher moving from the 19" to the 20" tires, but moving from run-flats to non-run-flats took care of that... in fact, I think that these new tires ride better and quieter than those Pirelli's that come OE (and the wet traction was terrible as well).

I guess the only downside is that I now have to carry a plug-kit and air-pump incase I get a flat.

I forgot to mention... when bolting on aftermarket wheels, you must remove the retaining clips that hold the brake rotors in place. They are placed on there during the build process at the plant to keep the rotors from falling off during assembly. There should be two per rotor at all four corners - they may not be there if your car has been serviced and they had to remove the clips to fix a problem.

What the clips look like (I shot it after half removing it so its easier to see):

The stock wheels have a little cutout for them, but aftermarket wheels don't and will cause your new tires and wheels will not seat correctly and they'll probably behave like they're out of balance.

What the back of stock wheels look like to accomomdate the clips:

Additionally, the TPM sensors for 05+ XLR's must use an RF tool to trigger them for the car to learn its position. If you want to buy one, the least expensive one I found that will work is the ATEQ VT10 for about $100. I ended up finding a local shop that had one and they took care of it for me. The process looks like this:

Oh, its probably worth noting that my local discount tire shop happily reset my TPM sensors without charging. :)

YUP they do a GREAT JOB!!!!

Thanks for the insight regarding the clips. That would turn into a nightmare if someone ran into the out of balance condition and wasn't aware of the clip issue.

I got paranoid that I might get my new wheels/tires stolen - in fact, I had a nightmare that my V was on blocks after a day of shopping... :(

I did some research and ended buying some Gorilla Guard locking lug nuts... they have a spinning sleeve to stop thieves from using those lug nut removal tools (I've learned that such thefts are common and the regular locking lug nuts don't stand a chance against those tools.)

I've already ordered a backup spare key in case something happens to the one it came with.

I like them. I would guess that the part number would be different on stock XLR-V wheels as opposed to the Foose wheels you have.

What was the cost ...for the locks and for the spare key???

I am sssuming you ordered direct.y form them online right??

I actually don't have foose wheels, I have custom machined Forgeline 3-piece wheels. (link is up above in the thread). I probably would have saved at least $3,000 had I gone with the Foose wheels, but I wanted a more clean and tailored look and we also learned that 285 width tires wouldn't have fit with the foose rims.

The locks I ordered are the 61631 (12mm x 1.50" Thread Size) which is the stock size and would have worked fine with the stock XLR-V wheels. In fact, I'm using all the stock lugnuts with my new Forgline wheels (as approved by both D3 and Forgeline).

I got the lock set from Amazon.com for $17 (shipped, no tax for me).

The spare key was $10.50 (shipped, no tax) ordered directly from Gorilla:

http://www.gorilla-auto.com/replacement.keys

Ridiculously cheap insurance to prevent theft... they'll have to destroy the wheels to get them off. :) (or, I suppose they could just take the whole car. :cry)

You can see examples of how locking lugnuts can be removed here:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-corvette-general-discussion/2261462-removing-wheel-locks-see-before-you-buy-for-more-protection.html

And some guys even use a the Gorilla Guard locks on every lug... wow!

Thanks very much for the additional information.

I just may get a set for my chrome "V" wheels just in case....

I have heard of people putting 2 on each wheel but not all 5 thats insane.

I really like those Corvette wheels...real clean looking.

Gorilla actually sells their other lock in a "one lock for every lug" pack:

http://www.gorilla-auto.com/the.system

But they don't do it for the sleeved version... I've read that you can call them and order 5 sets all key'ed the same, however... but what a pain.

Additionally, they claim not to sell the sleeved version in a "full set" system as they believe that the sleeve is enough to keep the thieves at bay. (I hope so).
