Hi everybody,
I just joined the group but am familiar with these forums as I am a member of mbcoupes.com for my 560SEC. I am really enamored with the XLR and think it solves my wife's desire for a convertible that is substantially built (she really hates being pushed around in her 190E by the big SUVs).

So here are the questions you have been asked time and again...what do I need to look out for when buying a used XLR; are there any typical ongoing maintenance issues I should know about; how many miles can I expect to get out of one of these cars (I'll pass 200k on my SEC in a few months); any general advice? I'm thinking of something between 2005 and 2008.

And one last, why are there so few of them in white? :)

Thanks muchly
Tom

Tom: Welcome to the XLR Forum!!

There are a lot of very knowledgeable members here. So I am sure your questions will be answered through the posted information or by one of the members.

Try and buy a low mileage XLR with a clean Carfax and under a GM Warranty--Cadillac Certified or under the GmPP Warranty for as long as possible.

Check your brakes, pads and rotors ($1,100) as well as the tires ($1,400). These items cost about 3k in total if they are near or at the replacement point.

The Northstar motor has been around for many years now and is very reliable. I would think with the proper maintenace (oil) as you are doing with your Mercedes you should see 200k or more with little or no issues.

Regards

Your last question--White wasn't offered as a color option until 2007 I think. So there are very few of them around.

Hi!

White, only in 2008. 259 built. Might still be a few around.

Sorry,
