We took delivery on our '05 Crimson Pearl with Shale interior. It's GREAT! The weather in Northern Virginia is beautiful for the remainder of the week and we will be Top downin it... I guess I'm official now.
motorboat 09-21-2004, 07:29 AM Welcome to our small but growing family. Its a great car and I am sure you will enjoy many hours of driving it.

Eyedoc 09-21-2004, 09:58 AM Hi Pez
I live and work in Falls Church and have had my Crimson Pearl since March.
Maybe we should link up and take a picture of two of them infront of something memorable here in NoVa/DC and give those California boys something to see.

fredw 09-21-2004, 11:19 AM pez,
welcome to the family.. I love my crimson pearl. enjoy!!
aviator 09-21-2004, 07:30 PM Let's see some photos! :cheers :cheers :cheers :cheers :cheers :cheers
Eyedoc 09-22-2004, 07:46 AM Pez and I have made contact and after he retuirns from a trip, we plan to meet and take a picture of our two Crimson Pearls in front of something in the area.
What venue would you guys like to see?
Tidal Basin (Cherry blossoms would have to wait until next April)
Iwo Jima Memorial
Pentagon
Capitol (might be hard to do, lots of construction there, same with Washington Monument)
Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian (new)
Watergate Complex
It will be curious to see what we can pull off.
motorboat 09-22-2004, 10:45 AM What about a XLR car rally to the GM factory?
I sent an email to MR. XLR to see if they give any tours of the factory. He said that on the XLR side they really don't have one because they are hand made so to speak but he said that he would look into putting something together..
I think it would be great if we could get a bunch of these cars together all at one time.
Seeing as there are so few XLRs out there GM might want the publicity and they might want to help out.
What does everyone think of that?
What time of year? I think fall or early spring, that way it would be a TOP down ride most of the time.
Lets hear from you MR. XLR!!!! :thumbs :party

fredw 09-22-2004, 11:07 AM That would be fun, let's do it!!
rick1827 09-22-2004, 04:07 PM The factory (as I understand it) is in bowling Green KY. It may not sound like much but that area lends itself to a lot of great two lane state routes with few stop signs. Very nice part of the country in the fall to tour in. I live in Cincinnati (about 160) miles away. So, count me in.

aviator 09-28-2004, 05:09 PM Lincoln Memorial didn't make the list?

OK - Andy and Blaise. The gauntlet has been thrown down by Pez and Eyedoc. Texas cannot be one-upped! How about we make a Crimson Pearl sandwich? (Two Xenon Blues with a Crimson Pearl in the center?)
1) In front of Nasa?
2) Galveston: Seawall, The Strand, Bolivar Ferry or Moody Gardens?
3) Minute Maid Park during the World Series? (Don't hold your breath, but the Astros are surging!)
Any other scenic ideas?
Quixotic 09-28-2004, 07:31 PM Houston make the Series? Wow! That's about as optimistic as thinking the NAV update will be free!
motorboat 09-28-2004, 08:23 PM Ok Aviator,
I work on the weekends BUT if you can get Andy to get on board we can show everyone what TEXAS is all about!!! Maybe there are some more Texans out there reading this forum and they may want to show up also. Wouldn't that be great??? Just tell me where and when...

motorboat 09-29-2004, 07:14 AM Aviator,
I hear Andy is working on a top secert program for Nasa. It has was something to do with a cloaking "stealth" system.
Maybe we can get him to install his Bata system on our XLR's "Andy is alway doing something with the Nav. system on his XLR" then we could slip into Nasa for some great photos with some of there rockets and things..
What do you think Andy can you get us in???? :thumbs

Eyedoc 09-30-2004, 03:29 PM Lots of construction around DC and I only listed sites that were possible.
No where to park and get the Lincoln in the picture, but I'll see what can be worked out.
Pez is 3 weeks in Italy, so will have to wait until late Oct to try for the shot.
alk3997 10-04-2004, 11:11 AM That is a little difficult right now, only because the big Saturn 5 is rusting. So, they are building a building around it. Once the structure is complete, they plan on restoring it.
The little rockets (Redstone and Little Joe 2) are still out on the lawn but they are surrounded by steel and other construction work. I'll keep my eye out for an opportunity.
Maybe we should try a spot outside Minute Maid Park instead?
aviator 10-07-2004, 06:54 PM Houston make the Series? Wow! That's about as optimistic as thinking the NAV update will be free!
Astros in the Series: Since Aug 15th, they've won 18 in a row at home (thats six consecutive sweeps) to win the NL Wild Card. One of the sweeps was the St. Lous Cardinals. During that period they also swept the Phillies twice - once at home and once away. At this writing, they've just split with the Braves in Atlanta, sending the first round playoff series home to Houston and wiping out the Braves home field advantage. Historically the 'stros have been six times to the playoffs, and they've never had more "Mo" than this year.
:smash :smash :smash :smash :smash :smash
But losing to Atlanta today after having a 2-0 lead in the seventh inning reminds me that they've managed to break my heart 41 consecutive seasons. :cry :banghead :cuss :cry :banghead :cuss
Yet, I remain, as always, an eternal optimist. It makes no sense at all to be anything else.
:yesnod :yesnod :yesnod :yesnod :yesnod
Andy, Blaise - I defer to Andy's recent observations regarding a photo-op in front of the NASA rockets. The Juice Box is a fine spot to build our Crimson Pearl sandwich. The Crawford St. parking lot overlooked by the choo-choo probably provides the best sight line. Shoot me a private message if this weekend (when the Braves are in town) is convenient. Of course, all other area XLRs are welcome, so shine 'em up!
Aviator
Congrats to Eyedoc, Pez and the rest of DC for the recent acquisition of a MLB team. Lets hope the name is not going to be the Washington Senators again!
motorboat 10-08-2004, 08:18 AM Do you have any extra tickets to the game I can have?? :jester
Blaise :thumbs
Eyedoc 10-08-2004, 09:26 AM They are playing down the "senators" name, I guess it is still owned by the Texas Rangers.
The ones that are being bandied about are "Nationals" (apparently the name of the Senators in the early years) or "Grays" (the name for the Black League team that was here in the past).
When they were renaming the Basketball team a few years back, one fo the suggestions was the "Washington Monuments".
aviator 10-08-2004, 09:38 AM Maybe someone has finally figured out that most people generally don't like senators very much.
In 2004 DC, you know whatever name they pick will pass the PC filter. So how in the world did DC ever get a football team with the name "Redskins"? Talk about offensive to a minority group! The Indian names Braves, Seminoles, Cherokees, etc are proper non-offensive names. But "Redskins" has been a derrogatory handle for hundreds of years.
joe mac 10-08-2004, 03:14 PM It is obvious that they can't keep the name Expos, because it was named for the 1967 Montreal World Expo. I would like it to be named the Nationals (even though I'm not American). I think it fits well with Washington. Like all Canadians, I wish the Expos stayed. But I know that baseball is a buisness so they had to move. Still, if there was no strike in '94, they would probably have a pretty good fan base.
