Hello all,
This could be solution for some of us without the bluetooth integration with the onstar. I emailed the site to see if the product would work for our XLR with the old analog onstar system and it should here's his reply..

Hi Raymond,
It should work in the XLR, I don't have the application guide complete yet.
But I'm pretty sure the 2005 XLR is GMLAN 29 bit, like all other Cadillac's of that vintage. I don't know where the onstar module is located, though.
Best to find that out first.

I have a 60 day return policy should it not work for any reason.

Thanks for your interest!

Functions and benefits below

The BlueSTAR is an integrated communications system designed to allow bluetooth communications in your GM vehicle. It works by utilizing the onstar equipment in your vehicle (microphone and mirror keypad) to communicate to a hands free car kit which connects to your cellphone.

There are NO EXTRA CHARGES to pay EVER. You use YOUR phone with YOUR minutes as you see fit.

Better yet, the BlueSTAR is invisible in your vehicle. There are no wires to run, no speakers to install, no microphone to route, and no ugly chrome keypad glued to your dash. And since the BlueSTAR takes advantage of the high quality sound equipment already installed in your vehicle, the audio quality is far superior to other bluetooth options including car kits and headsets.

Make calls, answer calls, mute calls, and transfer calls all using the existing onstar mirror buttons. And if your phone is equipped with voice dialing, you can do it all with the touch of a button.

For applications where onstar is not installed, but you need to mute your radio for an external bluetooth kit, please refer to the HyperSTAR product.

This sounds good! After having bluetooth in both my Dodge Pickup and my wife's Nissan Altima, I feel like I am missing out when I drive the XLR. One should never have feelings of missing out on something when driving an XLR.

The main OnStar module is to the right of the rear-view mirror.

The Module (VCIM) is numer 6 above and it is located forward of the right rear well in the trunk. The module on the windshield is the Movile Telephone antenna (number 2).

I have posted some schematics from my '05 service manual on one of the other XLR forums asking for anyone with '09 drawings of the bluetooth system and wiring to post them too.

Other individuals have successfully converted an 07 GMC Sierra to bluetooth from an 09 Sierra using the new VCIM, a bluetooth antenna, and new steering wheel switches with the talking mouth icon. While that is a different vehichle in the General Motors lineup, I am striving to accomplish the same with my 05 XLR.

I just need the other side of the coin (the wiring info from an 09 with bluetooth.)

Ben is absolutely correct. I was on a road trip when I replied and have the books in front of me now. The VCIM (Vehicle Communication Interface) is basically a glorified cell phone to process GPS signals and voice data. The navigation antenna (on the dash) feeds the VCIM. The VCIM communicates with the other systems in the car via the Class 2 and GMLAN buses. It has the ability to operate the horn, door locks, and exterior lights when commanded to do so by OnStar. If you're a paranoid, privacy-prone person, OnStar also has the ability to listen in to your conversations and track your vehicle without your knowledge, whether you're a subscriber or not. This would involve a request from the appropriate agencies, but the capability is there.

It sounds like the perfect module for the BlueStar to talk to.

I solvef this similar problem in my partners honda cars (http://www.thecarconnection.com/make/honda). We did it by haveing a module designed that would allow you to plug alsmost anything with a jack input.

Beet any thing out there and never loses connection
